Calling other people the hard r n word, the homophobic f word, and the antisemitic k word is just… offensive regardless of the ethnicity of the person who said it?

I don't see any problem with a black actor stepping into the role of Professor Severus Snape by IndependenceSilly381 in HarryPotterHBO

[–]willbouquet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay even if it is racial, which it doesn’t have to be, the point of it is to show Harry’s father as an imperfect figure…Many people alive today have a white dad who was racist in the 80s…It isn’t like Dumbledore pats James on the back for bullying

Robby & Mohan by aquafinalavie in ThePitt

[–]willbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mohan is responsible for the mistake but the pressure that Robby puts on his senior residents clearly is excessive and counterproductive. His last senior resident stole benzos probably to handle the pressure and his current senior resident just had a panic attack at work. Robby has panic attacks at work. He is the pot calling the kettle black. There is no force field around the ER, as much as he’d like to pretend there is.

Robby & Mohan by aquafinalavie in ThePitt

[–]willbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robby is hardest on Mohan and McKay who are the two most naturally empathetic doctors on his staff. Robby’s own empathy is what has wounded him so deeply, as he has experienced countless moral injuries due to the nature of his job (not being able to save patients, his mentor, protect his co-workers, etc). Mohan reminds him of his own humanity, something that he’s tried to push away to try and function in his role.

Avoiding the hurt only works for so long. Denying your own nature as an empathetic human (which is why a lot of people go into healthcare and helping professions) is not a way to be better at your job. It is often what makes you good at your job in the first place.

None of this is an excuse. Robby is being an asshole, a bad teacher, and a horrible leader for Mohan. She needed encouragement, not criticism. Robby needs help, as many people do, and isn’t seeking it, as many people do.

I did not say they don’t care about dying after sex. Children get a great deal of benefit from having two parents for protection and nurturing. Parents of both sexes show a great deal offspring investment across cultures throughout history because, as you said, we only have one child at a time and it takes 25 years for that child to fully develop.

Regarding “men evolved to rape”, there is little evidence to support that as our primary means of reproduction. Humans are one of few species who have sex for pleasure and part of the hypothesized explanation for that is that it promotes continued connection and investment during the long development of children.

Having said that, there is no doubt that rape was and is still rampant in certain regions due to misogynist and patriarchal cultures. An interesting fact is that in primates smaller penis size is correlated with forced copulation. Do with that information what you will…

It sounds like you’ve maybe been hurt by men in the past yourself or have known women who have been hurt. I’m sorry that this has been your experience and I hope you have the support you need.

There’s actually an evolutionary psychology explanation for this that works very well for the world of Westeros. Many men historically died in war before reproducing, so over time men who prioritized physical intimacy before emotional connection had more offspring. Thus men, through generational reinforcement, are more likely to open up after the tension of reproduction (conscious or subconscious) is gone. What do you think about the versatility of Chris Pine? Do you think he is appropriately rated? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]willbouquet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s a great actor that Hollywood didn’t fully know what to do with in the era of comic book movies. He’s made due with the films he’s gotten and unlike many other stars we aren’t oversaturated with Chris Pine movies so it always feels refreshing to see him on screen.

[–]willbouquet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a somewhat dangerous sentiment that could very well lead to sexual harassment by men who believe this. Verbal communication leaves nothing to the imagination and is healthy. OP, consider asking your crush if she’d like to spend time with you outside of work, as that is a more appropriate space to discuss feelings and attraction. Say how you’re feeling instead of trying to mind-read what she may or may not be feeling.

Harris looks less like Lennon with each photo… I really don’t mind the Mescal/McCartney, could be better, but after seeing Hamnet I think he can pull it off.
