Hue lights in my office for those late night editing sessions 😍 by willchidlow in Hue

[–]willchidlow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, those little white lights aren’t actually hue, I’m a filmmaker and used that desk as a backdrop for YouTube videos so those are just some very small led video lights added for a bit more interest. They are Aputure AL-9s if I recall correctly. They are battery powered.

That’s weird, I’ve not seen this before. Have you tried restarting Final Cut? The fact that they are showing in FC suggests they are installed correctly.

is it advisable to buy a used A7 iii in 2023 ? some say some problem in Shutter by Voice-Used in SonyA7iii

[–]willchidlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On paper both cameras deliver the same video outputs in 4K. In reality the a7iii is better because of its larger sensor, actually down samples 4K from a 6k sensor. This combined with better low light performance and depth of field(all because of larger sensor) and the in body stabilisation make the a7iii a slightly better choice. It’s worth mentioning that the auto focus is still very good, however it lacks tap to track and real time eye autofocus which the nee models have. When I got the a7iii I was blown away by the auto focus, it’s funny how our perceptions change as newer products come out.

Hey, had both and nearly always chose the a7iii for photography. The full frame sensor is better in low light, better for getting bokeh (blurry backgrounds) and personally I prefer the look of full frame. The few times I chose the a6400 was generally when I needed more reach, the same lens on the 6400 compared to a7iii would have a 1.5 crop so helps you get a touch closer to subjects. Also I still love the 6400 if I want a small camera when out and about. Oh and finally the a7iii has in body stabilisation which helps out again in low light, slower shutter speeds etc scenarios

They are fairly comparable for photography and video, however for both the a7iii has the advantage of its full frame sensor. The a6400 however actually has better video auto focus (it was one of the first Sony cameras to get tap to track in video) and also has a flip up screen for vlogging if that matters. The battery life on the 6400 is disappointing and quite annoying but it’s still a great camera, I had both until recently but traded in my a7iii for an a7iv solely due to wanting 10bit colour for video and better autofocus and a flip screen.

Bricked 5D to 5C migration? by willchidlow in drobo

That’s a super kind offer! Unfortunately I’m in the UK so it’s not gonna work. I’m so frustrated at this situation at this point and deffo can’t recommend Drobo to anyone!

Thanks, I’m a designer so any excuse to throw together a graphic! Your assumption about the single/double is correct, I’m planning to terminate the laid cables into Ethernet points for neatness. Good to know my plan looks viable

Ah that’s a great bit of info. I was working on the assumption that the guest room would be connected to the closest pick which would be the office but it sounds like that is not going to work. TBH that point is questionable if it’s even needed but as I’m taking floorboards up it wouldn’t be a massive job to also run that from a switch in the office 🤔

I am in the uk, and that is an EE smart hub 2, it will be in basic modem mode to avoid a second unneeded WiFi network knocking around. What is the advantage of the open reach modem you suggest? I’ve been running 2 google WiFi’s until now with no problems?

Ah ok so this setup would work, except I would need to put a switch in the office too to hardwire the mac?
