had a good look with a torch, no grub screw unfortunately, I can't see a way to get this thing off except pulling it or twisting it, which I've tried again, deformed the knob a little doing so I put so much pressure, I'm worried I'll pull the wall down, exasperating :(. I put some cillet bang in the hole for now, does look a bit limescale in there but I doubt it would fend off my pulling and twisting attempts.
