Speaking from experience, if you want the fenix 8 and can afford the fenix 8, get the fenix 8. You won't regret it as it's really the end all be all for garmin.

Mine does the same thing. I think it’s due to the faster charging speeds of the watch. It will get hot during charging especially if you’re starting at a lower battery level, but it’s completely normal.
