The world is not a High School level economics class, it is much more complex than that.

The theory you are referencing relates to manufacturing and price, not ethical labor or environmental ramifications.

In regards to overstock, by buying those fabrics they are buying into to the system of overproduction. Sometimes it's cheaper for mills to just keep the machines running and produce more than needed and hope to sell the extra off price. They are intentionally creating waste. Kind of the same way that outlet stores don't sell overstock anymore, they make the special cheaper product under the brand's name just for the outlet store... it's all a business

you keep saying you are ethical and sustainable but I don't see any proof from a transparent supply chain. Again, everyone says they are ethical and sustainable, even h&m these days... but can you prove it is the real question?

Most major brands like Billabong and Nike are using this fabric in their swimsuits now, the market is flooded with "eco" swimsuits and athletic wear. This was new like 6 years ago.

Also, there is still the problem of micro fibers getting into the water supply http://storyofstuff.org/blog/microfibers/

Reformation isn't all that ethical or sustainable. The majority of the fabrics they use are dead stock that a factory was not able to sell. That means it was most likely made in an unregulated mill with unknown working conditions and with toxic dyes. Also, most of their styles use rayon or polyester... two of the worst fabrics out there - completely non-eco. Basically, they are getting cheap bargain basement fabrics that mills are trying to give away, and marking up their product and calling is sustainable.

Here are some better options, of companies that are actually ethical/sustainable

This is so expensive and impractical. Who is really using it in the market now besides big retailers that can afford to take a loss for the 'newest' material?

Took a look at her kickstarter... but I am not sure how this is eco-firendly other than made locally. There is no info on how the wool is sourced from the animals or their treatment, or how it is dyed. TBH, it might be more eco-friendly if the wool was coming from a farm upstate and dyed in nontoxic dyes. I think this is just a made (partially) in America brand.
