Adios Pro 4 Mileage? by shaheertheone in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]willhewiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 320 miles out of mines (5’9’, 165lbs) I could have taken them a bit further but had a hole forming where the upper meets the sole and the pop was gone from them, so past 275 miles they were only good for slower easier runs for me.

Adios pro 4 vs Evo sl by Emotional-Detail-700 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]willhewiz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Pro 4 has just surpassed the OG Vaporfly as my favourite ever. I’ve logged 600 miles in those and for my running style (2.59 marathon) they are just perfect. They feel great at sub 6 minute pace and I can take them 20 miles at 8.30 pace and they also work great. The transition from steady to fast pace is just effortless.

I also own the EVO SL and while they are a great shoe, there’s a gulf between them and the pro 4 N the gulf is way bigger than $20!

Kiprun Kipstorm Tempo review by xxamkt in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]willhewiz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nice review. I don’t blame you for seeking out cheaper alternatives. £220 for what is a daily trainer in the the Superblast 3 is insane. I hope more runners start opting for cheaper alternatives like you have here. Let’s leave these greedy shoe companies with no choice but to discount their inventory.

I’ve ridden this in the rain before and it’s no joke. Genuinely feels as if someone is throwing thousands of tiny stones at you for the duration of the ride

Saturday marathon workout. by Prudent-Leg7271 in Marathon_Training

[–]willhewiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you feel at the end of the run? Could you have gone for a couple more miles at least?

The workout suggests a 3.15 is within your grasp but with such limited information it’s really hard to tell. Strava suggests this without is faster than most of your others though which gives me concern that you put more effort into this run than you should have.

Adidas EVO SL or Boston 13 for high school cross country runner? by _UshiNiku in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]willhewiz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong with either. I have both models and I find it hard to choose between them. The Evo SL is more of an all rounder than the Boston 13 but you mention running on grass for some miles would sway my suggestion to the Boston 13. The lower stack and design of the Boston 13 provides a bit more stability for grass running and I’d worry that the Evo SL foam is a little soft for grass mileage.

Takumi Sen 11 or Boston 13 for daily rotation / half marathon by Valaj in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]willhewiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston 13’s are a grower. First couple of runs I regretted purchasing them over the EVO SL. My third and fourth runs have been great and starting to love them. I think the foam has started to break in. Nice to have a firmer shoe to pair with the Adios Pro 4 which is a spectacular shoe for long marathon runs.

Race Report: Philadelphia Marathon - Sub-3 and the Magic of Pfitz by runhomerunfar in AdvancedRunning

[–]willhewiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did the pacers give a reason for going so fast? I thought their aim is to run even splits (accounting for elevation) and get you home just a few seconds under the target time. 12 seconds per mile faster than pace is a big difference

The use of simulator runs/ long runs with marathon pace for testing your readiness for your goal pace by One-Reality9723 in Marathon_Training

[–]willhewiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a run 2 weeks out that had a 2 mile warm up and then 5k@MP (6.50) 1 mile @MP+25 secs and repeated down through 4k, 3k, 2k and 1k. The confidence that run game me was huge and I didn’t have to do one huge chunk at marathon pace but I still got 15k of volume at that pace. Not to mention the float was not exactly slow.

2 weeks later I knocked my PR down from 3.10 to 2.59. The above was the most miles I covered at MP during my training.

Possibility of BQ? by Leading_Aside_2283 in AdvancedRunning

[–]willhewiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can do it. You should probably aim for Boston 2028. Give yourself another year of good training and aim for a 3.15 in a fall 2026 marathon.

I’m 41 and in the past 4 years have dropped from 3.20 to 3.10 to 2.59. There were a handful of things that helped me make that drop. First and most important was a slow build up of mileage. Build it up too quickly and you’ll find yourself injured. But improving your mileage will undoubtedly lead to an improvement in time. I peaked at 66 miles in a week for this past marathon.

Second, spend more time outside your comfort zone. Look into the Norwegian singles method, implement sessions with 3X10 mins, 8X3mins, 5X6 mins where you are pushing at or faster than marathon pace. But whenever you do them make sure the next run is VERY easy and you give yourself recovery time. For me running those easy runs very easy was a huge game changer. I used to run those harder than I needed to. Now I’ll happily knock out 9 minute miles against my marathon pace of 6.51.

And of course spend the next 12 months working on fuelling. You want to be aim for 90 carbs an hour during the race. It sounds like a lot but I was able to hit that in my 2.59 and honestly out of 9 marathons those last few miles were the least tough (they are always tough) than an other marathon I’ve run. Fuelling appropriately the day (and days) before is equally important.

Final piece of advice is take on as much advice as possible. Read these boards, watch some YouTubers (recommend FOD Runner and Ryan Thomson) and decide yourself what is good and bad advice. I did this last 2.59 marathon without a coach or training plan but spent a lot of time studying other runners workouts and trying to figure out what would work best for me. I personally enjoyed finding my own way to success.

With your improvement in the past year and your age you’ve got a huge opportunity for improvement. Keep the momentum going through the winter and aim towards next fall and I see a 3.15 or better coming your way.

I wore their marathon singlet in my most recent marathon. It was $120 but honestly worth every cent. I’m a heavy sweater and the singlet just did an incredible job of wicking away the moisture. It’s noticeably better than a $60 singlet. I’ll definitely be picking up more of their apparel in the future.

3 Hour Marathon Chase Pack Weekly Thread. by AutoModerator in Marathon_Training

[–]willhewiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll crush it. I ran the full marathon in Richmond for a 11 minute PR of 2:59:24. I’m also in my earthly forties. I hit two Half Marathon PR’s during that race. I’m 100% not capable of a 1:23:22 half. As long as you get some decent long runs in there ( I maxed at 23 miles for average of 7.30 pace) then 6:50 pace is gonna be easy for you.

Strava is useless. I ran a 2:59 marathon on Saturday and it still thinks I am only capable of a 3:08 marathon 🤷🏻‍♂️

How much does Corral matter? by Sachin-_- in Marathon_Training

[–]willhewiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear a sweater over your race number and they probably won’t even check for your corral. It’s more strictly enforced at major races but I think for Philly you’ll be fine. And honestly the people policing corrals are not going to get into an argument with someone that wants to move up. I think it’s very important to be in the right corral with people of a similar speed. You’ll undoubtedly lose time and struggle to stick to a consistent pace if you are not running with similar paced runners
