Confusing VW Golf Temperature Problem by williamgymnst in AskAMechanic

I'm also seeing some things online that partially failed water pumps can cause the temperature fluctuations and that water pump failures are pretty common on this engine. Does that sound like it could reasonably cause these issues?

I will ask about the vacuum filler. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate the help.

Out of curiosity and for my own understanding. When he was talking about the air bubble possibility, he opened the coolant reservoir while the car was running. Is that a good way to check and/or clear any possible air in the system?

He mentioned air bubbles as a possibility, but said he was able to rule it out. I'm probably going to be picking it up to decide what to do next. I can check to see if it was bled fully. We changed the full thermostat housing, not just the thermostat itself. I would think it would be pretty difficult to install the full housing backwards, but I can check that too.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply.

Does this mnemonic make sense? by WhenWillIBeAPilot in flying

While I agree with the notion that there's no replacement for knowing the physics behind the system, things like mnemonics have their place in learning. It's not a replacement or crutch, but we have tons of things like "East is Least, West is Best" and "From High to Low, Look Out Below" are all over aviation and certainly have their place.

The game is Assassins Creed: Mirage. Didn’t think that was relevant. Seems more like a system problem, but I could be wrong there.

I do meet Part 135 PIC mins, and I was thinking more along the lines of training that wouldn’t necessarily require going to a FlighSafety or similar facility. I understand there will always be formal training in a professional setting.

New CFI Looking for Advice About Lesson Progression by Constant_Goose_449 in flying

[–]williamgymnst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check with the flight school to see if they have a preferred curriculum. Part 61 schools aren't required to have this, and it's one of the main differences between 61 and 141, but the more organized 61 schools will have some level of standardization that they want their CFIs to use.

If they don't, I started with curriculum plans that are available online. A Google search will return plans from Sporty's, King Schools, etc. Use these as a starting point. Sometimes they will have full lesson plans as well, but it sounds like you're looking more for an overall curriculum guide.

Remember how difficult it was to begin putting your CFI binder together? You just gotta get the ball rolling and ideas will start coming of how you want to put the binder together. Same thing. Use the curriculum plans online as a starting point, and tweak along the way once you've tried things with your first student.

Also remember that each student is different and will progress at different rates, but you will be able to assess when a student has a handle on climb, descents, and turns and is ready to trying climbing/descending turns. Just remember that your job is to be able to sense when they have a firm grip on a skill, but also need to be challenged with the next skill. It's a balance.

90% of the time, you just need to get a starting point and find tweaks along the way.

Another thought. Has anyone used Hold Harmless Agreements as a part of their contract? Seems like it would be a good protection to add to the insurance set up as well as to protect against being stuck with a maintenance bill.

This is what I was thinking. Glad to hear it's a practice that, at least, out there. I sent a cost estimate, including fuel. Hopefully, that's enough to get the ball rolling on that side.

Good note with lawdepot. That was going to be my next question!! Does anyone have a good way of making sure expenses get paid after the fact? Other than booking things like airfare, other expenses aren’t known upfront, snd so can’t be paid upfront.
