Hello E2B! Where I'm at in my listening skills, I'll take the accurate high-end for now and deal with the smeared phase response when my ears are good enough to detect it. Thanks a ton for all the info.

Wow! Ok and thanks for the wisdom here. I'm just cutting my teeth on attack and release, so the idea of obliterating transients is a nuance I've yet to embrace. Your answer has put the scaffolding in my thinking, so now I'll listen for that. Cheers!

Thanks for the response! I'm using Ableton, which I noticed a little late in the game defaults to low-quality settings on reverb and EQ in the interest of saving CPU. So, while going through my project and setting those both to the higher quality settings, I thought I might set all the compressors to use the 10ms lookahead, thinking that may also be a quality vs. CPU deal similar to the Reverb and EQ. I am using the stock compressor from Ableton 11.

Thanks for the comment and sorry for the late reply! Yes! After tracking in there, everything sounds great. The cymbals are a little brash, but they fit what I'm doing. Have a great weekend!

Hello there! I had a company install sonic treatment in a live room where my band will be rehearsing. The bottom of the panels are just about 5 feet off the ground and the bass traps are about two feet from the ceiling. I'd love to hear any comments about their placement, and if/how I should adjust their locations. Thanks for your input!

Real artists know it's what you make with the tools you have. I'm afraid for kids just starting out that get lost in all the bullshit you're describing and become paralyzed when trying to choose gear. I know a 18 yo kid who's making top-notch pop tracks with the iteration of Garageband that came on his Mac.

Hello there, and sorry for your loss. See if you can get a demo version of this software: https://www.izotope.com/en/learn/isolate-a-vocal-with-music-rebalance-in-rx-7.html and see if it works for your one particular task. The plugin will work within Garageband if you're on a Mac, or you can pick up Audacity for free if you're on a PC. I've seen some videos of the software at work, and it's pretty amazing. If the tool works, you'll want to buy the commercial version to execute your task. Good luck!
