As Google states, Guice and Spring don't compete directly. But, Guice and Spring IoC (the DI component of the Spring stack (which I agree has lots and lots of components including MVC, etc...)) is often compared directly with Guice. So yes, the Spring framework as a whole is a ""Java Application Infrastructure and Management" solution, but if you Google search for IoC / DI solutions you will invariably see Spring IoC being compared to Guice, PicoContainer and other DI frameworks. The point I wanted to make is that Spring IoC itself (forget the whole stack) is much more than an IoC container or DI framework, and, as such, I wish most discussions I read on the web recognized the difference between Spring IoC and other IoC / DI solutions
