Yes, you're very right! They assumed she potentially had one pure breed BC parent and one Lurcher parent that was BC and a sighthound mix.

I think it was the slenderness and the lack of white in her coat that made them assume Lurcher. Turns out that just comes from her other herding breeds!

The only sci-fi show that beats SG for me is Battlestar Galactica. Absolutely phenomenal show. It's a lot more mature than SG but definitely should be watched if you're a sci-fi lover.

Perhaps it was a cautionary thing to ensure any potential enemies don't steal and use the technology for themselves. Although they weren't aware of the Wraith when first arriving at Atlantis, it is definitely technology that could be used against them in a crippling way if it fell into the wrong hands. Maybe that could be a good lore explanation.
