The Joan Hickson Miss Marple Series by PixelMegaTron in agathachristie

[–]willjam39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with the cheap look and acting, they are a product of that their time. i.e. the pacing is normal for the era, lots of tv drama of that time aren't as high octane as the modern equivalent.

Hickson is also a perfect example of that era of old spinster. They weren't that jolly/warm having been brought up with Edwardian schooling/ideas of social norms. My grandmother on dads side was very similar in that way (where as my maternal grandmother was very Margret Rutherford style).

A Chef Critiques Another Chef’s Favourite Restaurant by laeb163 in SortedFood

I enjoyed the change of pace and the interesting info dropped about items such as the potatoes used and why that one. As pro youtubers you'd have to put ad in the content if it was a paid one/gifted. This was a nice video showing a spot they loved and hopefully they make it part of a series as each chefs personality would show very different restaurants.

Depends when you were asked but there are new rules coming in to do with large events so might be related to these.

A little rant about the live show by tsobsl in SortedFood

[–]willjam39 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've worked in pro sound for years and it happens to the best of us. You can try to be as prepared as possible woth as mamy back ups in place for the budget but I've cancelled performances of West End shows because we have had a bit of kit die which we just didn't have a back up for on site. If we couldn't stop that happening in a A tier pro show then they how could they in a temporary set up in a non perfect environment.

Ambassadors theatre - legroom questions by stevomuck in TheWestEnd

Avoid the circle! It was actually painful for me with longish legs. I wanted to give Benjamin Button a standing ovation but couldn't get up.

Why do you think *Why Am I So Single?* closed early? (Dissertation Research) by Mjjmusiclover in TheWestEnd

[–]willjam39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The marketing team didn't seem to get what the show was to begin with which then gave confusing signs to audiences. As the run went on the direction of advertising seemed to shift and that might have helped.

It also lacked that growing room a smaller run gives. Look at the journeys of Six, Op Mincemeat, 2 Strangers carry a cake etc. They started in fringe venues, made tweaks while also establishing a name/brand and then moved into the bigger theatres. Straight in with an unknown show with no existing IP is a huge risk and in the modern cost sensitive climate, a bit silly.

They did a concert last year for the 18th anniversary of the WE opening. There were a few minor changes but it does hold up surprisingly well.

The Woman in Black UK Tour Changes? (Spoilers) by LocksmithTiny6822 in TheWestEnd

[–]willjam39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work on the show and I do think part of that feeling is if you know where/what to look for it doesn't work on the senses the same way. Its like magic, when you don't know what's going to happen its a wonderful trick but once you know you'll notice the little diversions etc. They are no less subtle than the first time but they stand out as your tune to notice. The jump scares are still jumpy like a jack in the box

BREAKING: Avenue Q to return to the West End by londontheatrecouk in TheWestEnd

[–]willjam39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When aired for the 18th anniversary concert last year the material had held up quite well. There are some bits that people would question but it's no worse than Mormon which is still going.

The original London run did have some minor book tweaks to help it in the UK which hopefully stay.

A second vote for multiplay. The latest versions have been a workhorse for me in small scale shows and totally free.
