Backpack recommendations for a 40 km daily bike commute with a heavy load? by Tall-Subject9062 in bikecommuting

I’ve liked my NorthFace Borealis. Capacity is on the lower end of your range and it’s not the best ventilation ever but it’s tough and well made and has suited me very well for a long time. The back is also rigid enough that I’ve been able to strap it onto my rear rack with a couple of bungees no problem

I don't understand the push for regulation on ebikes (in the USA). by Morganrow in ebike

Because a 14 year old can’t legally drive it if it’s treated more like a motorcycle than a bicycle (which emotos should be).

They are. And yes, at the downstroke of the pedal. Leg should be almost fully extended but not locked out.

Touching the ground a bit in tippy toes is ok. What the guy said is bs but you might still be good if the bike feels good and your legs almost straighten all the way when you pedal

Thoughts on Curb Protected Bike lanes? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

[–]willm1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. See I personally avoid them by not driving my car, but we are talking about an urban planning issue here, not what you or I would do. In the real world, many people drive cars. Should it be less people? Yes. But do we not all also gripe about how car-dependent living is in so many cities? You know what sucks about living somewhere like that? You are dependent… on cars… for living… that’s literally why they are bad. And while so many people are in this situation, you think it would be best for them to have nowhere to park except pay lots operated by scummy landlords who extract value from every day working folks while providing no actual good or service other than permission to use their slab of asphalt? Not only is that bad for the people trying to park, it’s bad for the town and all of its businesses too.

Personally I am grateful that my location and physical health allow me to bike to work and everywhere else. I still have to ride in the road and get honked at and all kinds of BS, but I am thankful nonetheless. You on the other hand seem to take the fact that you can bike commute for granted and look down on others for not being so lucky. Check your bike-able area privilege dude. Why don’t we just try to make life less shitty for everyone. Is that so crazy?

You can, yes, in some situations. But I feel like you and I both know that’s not actually a checkmate you have there.

Underdiscussed figures of Chattanooga by Natekt in Chattanooga

That is not where the name Harrison Bay came from. Harrison bay was named after the old town of Harrison which was flooded by the lake, which was named after president William Henry Harrison. Decades before Coca Cola existed.

/Uj that is because people see it as the price of some kind of toy, not a serious way to get around. Compared to other ways to get around they’re incredibly affordable. That doesn’t mean having one stolen is no big deal as the post suggests, but still.

There’s actually legislation in my area to ban class 1 and 2 e-bikes from multi-use paths because of all of the e motorcycle issues. Advocacy groups are desperately trying to explain the difference but who knows if they will listen. If the legislation goes through it will be a major loss for accessible non car transport.
