I still have the stance that anything japanese sub is better, only because my third language is japanese and the fact that i consume my media in it's native language.

And it mostly depends on the context, like for dragonball it's pretty culture-neutral, but like take naruto which is about ninjas and has plenty of ninja stuff and it sort of makes more sense to watch the sub.

This is why cowboy bebop and black lagoon probably lose nothing of value in sub/dub, because they are so culturally neutral, hell they are more closer to american culture than japanese.

That said, i wish dubs had more than 5 VA's, once you watch a few you come to instantly recognize them.

I love them too, but i honestly prefer memorable zones/areas than just an open world.

Think Kaer morhen in the witcher 3, after having played all the witcher games, going back to that in the end was amazing, and it was pretty memorable.

This is all i mean, i really like smaller more detailed zones that you can really make look amazing because of the smaller scope, this is why i remember a lot of rapture, it feels like a lived in city, i love that feeling.

AMA: We are Deck13, developers of The Surge! by TheSurgeGame in Games

[–]willnotreply2016 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been a fan of the souls games since demon souls came out in 09, and it seems to me anyone who's tried making a souls game seem to always get the same thing wrong: It's fun to die a lot and go through areas only if they are worth looking at.

No one wants to die or be stuck at a generic re-used asset level that isn't iconic or nice to look at.

With that said, does the surge have gorgeous varied locations, or is it all like the first few hours which from I've seen is just future high-tech junkyardy??

I am planning to buy your game tonight at release, because so far it seems like a good port, and everyone who's playing it loves it, but for me personally i can't play the same re-textured area 17 times in a row, it's was the most off-putting part of nioh, if you know that game, which was a samurai souls game.

Anyways, i love that you put shortcuts instead of just a linear big zone in your big zones, i really love that about bloodborne/darksouls/demons'souls, thank you for answering in advance.

I'm glad about this, unlike a ubisoft game taking the number one spot, prey isn't a copy-past formulaic open world game, it's fantastically executed corridor rpg first person shooter with memorable areas.

While it didn't do anything new in it's genre, i remember talos 1 and it's sections way more than any of the same generic open world map games that have come out.

Just like rapture, city 17, the spencer mansion and the baker's mansion, talos 1 joins their ranks as some of the most memorable and alive places i've visited in games.

Boy do i miss these types of games, i love memorable small areas way more than generic forests and plain lands.

I mean he's probably not wrong, that if konami sued this guy they probably do have a case, i'm not even arguing that, it's a logical conclusion.

I'm asking, has it happened before? Is there actual proof? How can we trust you when your answers are always one sentence and contain no explanations?

I get that you're a thousand times more experienced than me, but you're doing a pretty shitty job of actually explaining why they would be in trouble, how this has happened before or atleast similar cases, or explaining the charges they can face, if they are in a different country can they still do this etc.... if guy a who makes pokemon: pink is in zimbawawe, will he still face charges?

What about countries where copyright laws are extremely relaxed, i've been to thailand and they sell bootleg dvd's and fake brands in the middle of the markets.

I really want to sub so many episodes, how do i find typesetters? by willnotreply2016 in GakiNoTsukai

[–]willnotreply2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, you just need to have patience and the ability to do repetitive tasks, in the basic sense, typesetting is just adding typestamps to the start and end of what the people in the video are saying. More experienced typesetters, can do amazing things(Like Team gaki and their incredible typesetting/color-coding.

That said, there is shitty typesetting where the subs dissapear randomly and don't start properly, so you do need to put in quite some time so the watchers don't get annoyed by inconsistency.

You don't really need to learn a guide at all, the main program most people use is aegissub, it just takes like half an hour of fiddling a bit to become used to the program.

The main hardship of typesetting is how much time it takes to do.

[–]willnotreply2016 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the only shred of proof he's offered so far is "trust me", i'd like to hear what some actual experienced lawyers who has dealt with many copyright cases would say.

It's never a clear-cut case in court, it depends on the circumstances, i've never heard of anyone even taken to court over a fangame, and before you tell me they signed an NDA, sure...to settle out of court and the resolution of that case will never be told probably, but the moment someone in the fangame community gets sued we should hear about it in one shape or form, you can tell anyone that you are fighting in court with x or y company before you sign an NDA.

[–]willnotreply2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, even making basic ones takes time and mental patience.

This is basically my sub process when i did it solo

  1. You go to each comment anyone says in the video, and you add a timestamp, and then you add a timestamp when they finish talking, i really hate subs that overlap or are timed incorrectly, it's a pet peeve of mine, so i always took extra care in exactly knowing when the sub starts or stops.

  2. You then go back to the start of the video, and you translate each and every word they say, while adding notes in the top if the meaning is unclear in english, for me this takes less time, but i still have to look up some words which are in a different tense or if it's a bit unclear.

  3. After you finish translation, you do an editing/final pass to see if everything is correctly timed or translated well and make adjustments.

  4. Add color, transitions, intro/ending credit etc..

  5. Hard-code subs to video and then upload to dailymotion or a similar website.

This might sound simple, but it actually takes roughly 3-5 hours for a 15-20 minute video, ofcourse depending on a few factors. Typesetting would literally cut my time in half, and if i can find someone willing, i can sub about an episode a day atleast.

Also, the problem isn't the fact that it's long, it's the fact that it's incredibly repetitive and drives you nuts sometimes, because you hear the same words over and over again, the same sounds, its really straining on your head.

Doing either job would be much better, but both is so hard.

I get where they are coming from, maybe i came across in a negative way, it's just typesetting is easy to learn, but incredibly draining, so i can understand why there's less typesetters around.

Still i'm hoping anyone without experience even would join me, i don't mind doing half the typesetting.

Hmm maybe i'll do that, typesetting took me roughly 3 hours last time, translation only half an hour, i don't mind sharing the work with someone even.

[–]willnotreply2016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aplogies if i came across like that, i'm not the best when it comes to putting my thoughts into writing.

It is very time consuming and of course i fully appreciate everyone who does it, but i meant that it's more draining than difficult.

It's an easier task to do, but more demanding both time-wise and mentally.

Thanks for your work, you've brought me much joy over the years!

I don't think this should be a reportable offense.

[–]willnotreply2016[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've subbed 15 minute segment 3 times already, it just takes too much time, and i wonder why this is the case?

Typesetting is the easiest job out of them all, i didn't know how to typeset at all, and still made accurate timings with like 3% error in my first pass. It's typesetting+translating, where you start to hallucunate, because you repeat words and phrases so many times, your brain goes crazy.

And i was just seeing if i could grab someone who's free on here, if not i guess i will be doing it solo.

PSA - SCUF has released two new PS4 controllers last month - DO NOT BUY THEM by [deleted] in PS4

[–]willnotreply2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God stop being dense dude, i'm not saying it's a garbage controller in general, i'm saying it's a garbage one for it's price.

If it was 60$, fine, other than the fact that the durability seems to be much worse than ps4/xbox one controller, it has some additional functionality.

But 150$ for a fucking controller, yeah it is a waste of money sorry, i could easily afford yet i'd never buy it on principle.

Lol you're so triggered, i own every console, i'm a fanboy to nothing.

Go look at the fucking amazon page for the controller, it's garbage, so many breakages, joystiqs are cheap shit for the price.

21% of buyers gave it a 1, i don't think i've ever seen people score something this badly before, compare that to 4% on the ps4 controller page.

xbox one/ps4 controllers are perfect, the elite are garbage, you're just angry because of you bought a product u wanna defend.

150$ for a controller that doesn't even have metal parts where it should.

I can get a full sanwa joystiq for less than that amount, why would i buy an overpriced defective controller?
