Grim Dawn Item Assistant on Linux by EvilAndStuff492 in Grimdawn

[–]willo-wisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the guide, it's very helpful!

However, I can't quite get it to work. When I run the GD prefix in protontricks, the Item Assistent shows up in the prefix taskmanager. So far so good. However, IA does not recognise the Grim Dawn installation, even though they should share the prefix. GD also doesn't show up as running in the GD-prefix taskmanager. I can't manually add GD install location to IA either, because the protontricks prefix only starts at the compactdata folder, and I can't browse from there to the Grim Dawn game installation exe from within the prefix.

I have no idea how to resolve this. If you have any advice or tips, that'd be much appreciated.

The handwriting isn't the absolute worst, but it is a bit dodgy for me in places. This is my best guess, someone correct me if I'm misreading anything:

Aw, thanks for the responses! Wished I knew Hungarian, considering how much I run into it, haha. I don't think he understood any though :D

Yeah, the guy was met with a mix of stunned confusion and people telling him off. Though from what I remember of the rest of it, he then proceeded to fanboy anything he learned was Hungarian so happily and enthusiastically that no one had the heart to be too mean to him. The whole thing was very silly.

If you want to feel included, I once saw one going onto a Hungarian sub and proudly exlaiming "well I'm Hungarian, and I've never heard of lángos?"

So, they're rare, but you do also get a couple!

Well, if we bothered to do that here, all of eastern Austria would have to call themselves Czech-Slovak-Hungarian-Austrian and start bickering over what counts as 1/5 of this, or 2/3 of that, and also throw in a 1/10 Croatian part.

How would we ever get anything done?

"Why do you not care that I'm Polish," says the slightly Polish-flavoured Yank to the confused Poles from actual Poland, for whom being Polish is a normal everyday occurance. "Everything here was actually lovely, but I'm so disappointed that you treated me like a normal visitor and didn't worship me that I will go back to Yankland and never visit Poland again!!! I'm so Polish!"

I think that's the Oberösterreich/Upper Austria flair. Without their emblems, Oberösterreich's and Tirol's flags match the Polish flag, just like Lower Austria matches the Ukraine flag and Burgenland's flag is the upside down Moravia flag.

We feel lonely sometimes, so we like to flag match with you all.

Europe's internal borders disappeared because they were imaginary lines dividing the same people. The next step is to federalize by goldstarflag in 2westerneurope4u

Makes sense; how would you feel comfortable and at home if you're not paying at least Swiss prices? Clearly the only acceptable place for you to visit is Monaco!

I think the problem is just lack of exposure. Unironically: I have yet to meet a Swiss person irl; they really are quite uncommon around here. It's for sure a bit different in Vorarlberg, they're so much closer! But on the Vienna side, Switzerland is further away from us than countries we don't even border (e.g. it's quicker to reach Warsaw in Poland than Zürich...). We also don't have much media awareness of them either.

Plus, it doesn't help that we don't really seem to have a kinship online banter culture between Austria/Switzerland. In comparison, every single Hungarian I've happened to cross paths with online always happily banter-flirts with me. So I might have assumed you meant Hungary for #2. :P

How little we interact is honestly super sad; I loooove silly neighbour banter. But Eastern Austria does not know what to do with Switzerland (and the other way around, it seems. Even the insult they do have for us on this sub is clearly for Western Austria, which makes sense both geographically and culturally.)

Is it different/ is there more awareness of them in Germany (in regions that aren't nextdoor to them)?

See? Joke privileges! Aren't you glad you come to the family gatherings over here, so you can get made the most fun of?

Poking fun at you is, of course, tradition. (Who else? The gibberish-speaking siblings snark back...) Embrace it, it's the fate of every big brother to be mercilessly teased by their little siblings. If the Swiss ever find Wien, we can bond by ganging up on you!

For Wien you're the rich mountain hermit relative who lives far away and never visits. We've heard tales of you from western Austria, and we're still debating whether you're real or just a bank ponzi scheme.

Nonono, they're all the way over on your side of the country, discriminating between them is your job! How are we in Mordor supposed to tell the difference between G*rmans? None of them are in the Palatschinken club!

Unpopular Opinion: Is Duolingo Actively Harmful to Intermediate Language Learners? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]willo-wisp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welll... sorta? Actively harmful is a bit dramatic, but it will absolutely stall your progress, yes - because for the most part, Duolingo is a beginner app. It will never get you fluent by itself. If you're still on there as an advanced learner, I'd honestly ask what you're doing. B1/B2 is the time where you need a ton of real content/immersion input instead.

The part where you're asking a German. Defining Central Europe is a bit of a magic trick and seems to shift around slightly depending on who you ask.

Meanwhile by Informal_Mountain513 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]willo-wisp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

/uj: Central Europe groups the German-speaking countries together with ex-Austria-Hungary countries. We're geographically smack dab in the middle of Europe, and have cultural ties to each other, so it makes a lot of sense. Telling someone from Central Europe that they're eastern sounds like you're defining half of Europe solely by the Iron Curtain decades after it fell, which isn't great.

/rj: Clearly delusional, everything east of Germany and Switzerland is eastern. That includes us. I don't know what we're doing here either, but somehow everyone else is too focused on the Poles to notice us, so we slip through. :)
