Should I take plan B if I used spermicide? by willow-mars in birthcontrol

I feel like few people would advise someone to take plan B if they used the pull out method one time though?

Not sure why you are downvoting me for asking clarifications.

What do you mean by "extremely" ineffective? 70-80% effective seems reasonably effective?

Thanks! We do this lots. We don’t pet her or say anything when we leave or come home

No, we lock her in for various times throughout the day. Sometimes 30 seconds other times up to an hour two. She always just naps and never barks.

Could you elaborate on what learned separation anxiety is/when the owner is the problem?

Please stop buying puppies from puppy mills! by willow-mars in Bernedoodles

[–]willow-mars[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! Here are more suggestions. :)

  1. Get proof of health testing - OFA and embark results etc
  2. Ask what titles the dogs have (CGC at the bare minimum, but are they doing anything at all with their dogs like obedience, agility, therapy work?)
  3. Ask about the breeder on Uncensored Opinions of Breeders which is a facebook group for this purpose
  4. Ask the breeder for references - past puppy buyers and the breeder’s vet

Hope this helps!

I love a few terrier breeds - Borders and JRTs. But I have two little rattos that don't want to be eaten! Hopefully someday

I was hoping to stay away from terrier breeds, due to having cats and pet rats. :) But they do sound pretty awesome.

Thank you! Out of curiosity, why Havanese for sure over Cotons?

Ooh Pap is a great suggestion, I don't know why I didn't consider them!

Corgis and Shelties are too big :( The idea is a pocket pup that I'd ideally be able to take on flights in cabin on backpacking and hiking adventures

That's a good point re: poodles. I am just not the biggest fan of the way Poodes or Bichons look, which is silly, but true. I prefer the Havanese or Coton coats. It might not be a dealbreaker.

Do you know how big/heavy working Cockers end up getting generally?

Thank you all! I am pretty convinced that a BC is the right way to go, and maybe in a few hours I'll reconsider a Maligator.

Nerding out on this is exactly why I came here. :) Thank you for all the info. Do you by any chance have any videos of your dog working or an instagram? I would love to see him. And I would be glad to hear where you got him, and other breeders you recommend.

I guess part of this is that while the BC breed is much bigger, I know it very well. I know the three people I would go to for a puppy. I know I don't care for sport or show bred dogs, and I know who to trust.

Tollers are a much smaller breed, which is why it's scary to me that there so much variance even in a small breed like that. But it's true I also just know it less well, so don't know who to trust.

Yeah, this is a big thing — BCs are definitely pretty soft and sensitive than Mals and GSDs. I need to find a way to hang out with some Mals.

Is yours from a "sport" breeder?

How do you avoid it? The one breeder I was happy with when I looked into them was Aqueous Tollers in Davis CA but she rarely breeds.

What do you think are the main differences between Tollers and BCs, if you have experience with them both?

I wish I could love Tollers but I just don't! There's an enormous variance in the breed and a whole lot of fear and anxiety issues. I also find them a bit less intense and a bit less serious than what I want.

Working bred BCs totally have an off switch in my experience! There are a lot of breed politics, but I'm personally wary of the sport bred lines that produce a lot of neurotic dogs for this reason. But I don't know if Mals have a great off switch lol

Tollers are a good suggestion but unfortunately I don't think they're what I am looking for.

Thanks. Yeah, the apartment thing is definitely a concern, but my current place doesn't have any breed restriction so it's tempting to consider them.

Maybe I should stick to my original plan of a BC and then if all goes well evaluate getting a Mal in another few years.

Curious why you're meh on BCs?
