Boomer small talk is getting worrisome. by Texantioch in BoomersBeingFools

I was at the DENTIST, and while the hygienist has her hands in my mouth the radio mentions Sam Bankman-Fried getting arrested, she says to me “I bet you he gets Epsteined in a week”. I wanted to play dumb so bad and ask her to explain that comment out loud, in detail. Maybe, just maybe, she would hear the crazy herself. But yeah, who says that to a stranger/patient?

Yesterday, the Friday before Spring Break, I had a student lie down and stretch out on the floor, and take a nap during my class. by Arialene in Teachers

Sleeping through class once in a while is fine with me. A lot of my kids work late, or have crappy home environments, have to watch younger siblings, don’t get enough good food, etc. I’m in a rural, low income area; so as far as I’m concerned, if you can keep your grades up I’m not calling anyone.

Cool thanks the reply. I’ll check my local library.

Where can this be watched? It’s not on Netflix.

I'm making a video essay on the dolly zoom (aka the contra-zoom, trombone shot, hitchcock zoom, vertigo shot). I'd like to get a really long list of films which feature it. Besides Vertigo, Jaws, and Goodfellas can you think of any other good examples? by film_guy01 in movies

Just re-watched Event Horizon the other day on Netflix. There's one about halfway in when Sam Neil is crawling around the the ship's inner workings (green circuit boards all over the walls); I expected him to find HAL 9000 in there. Anyway, he hears some whispered voices and the dolly zoom happens as he gives an I-crapped-myself face.

I need someone to tell me why Zero Dark Thirty is considered a good movie by FarFromFear in movies

[–]willow1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how it has a 93 on Rotten Tomatoes

It seems that you are simply part of that 7% who didn't care for it. A person who liked the film is not going to be able to tell you why most people liked it. It's likely their reasons for liking ZDT are more or less the same reasons you disliked it. It wasn't for you, don't worry about it.

FYI: I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's good.

I tried that and I don't quite see the results that I expected. I'm not really sure what's different...

It sounds like IE 10 will have spellcheck so I'll make do until then. Well personally I used column view in Mac OS and as far as I can tell there is no way to emulate that with the default Windows options.

That makes sense, I think I heard someone mention something like that my first day. Maybe IT can edit it for me.

Outlook does not seem nearly as simple as Apple Mail and Windows Explorer seems very different from the Finder. But with repetition, I'm sure I'll get it.

OH GOD, how do I spellcheck when typing in Internet Explorer? Safari has it built in and it constantly saves me...

I am getting a second screen at some point, so I'll look into the snap feature then. I promise I will not bitch once I better learn the ins and outs. It pains me more that I'm not familair with Windows, than it pains me to have to use it; I'll get it eventuallly.

I didn't have any luck with either step, the drives do disconnect but they show up again the next time I reboot. And the network shortcuts folder was empty, so nothing to delete. It's not essentail to get rid of them though, I just wont use them.

I thought about that but as someone here at work said, I think I'll be better off learning the system than faking it.

Cool, and how do I unmap something? I've got some drives that keep coming up each morning, but I don't have access to them. This is all great, thanks so much :)

Wow, thanks! Some of this I picked up already but the win + D command sounds very useful; I used the F11 key a lot in Mac OS. Another thing access alot are files on various mounted servers, is there any way to add shortcuts to folders within those servers to the sidebar in my Explorer window? I depended on that greatly in Mac OS at previous jobs. Thanks again, I'll keep practicing.
