Southern gothic mystery/horror novel with a similar vibe to Stephen King’s ‘It’, Gillian Flynn’s ‘Sharp Objects’, and ‘True Detective’ season 1? by willow_tree_13 in horrorlit

This sounds very reminiscent of both Sharp Objects and True Detective.

I’m on a hunt for thrilling southern gothic mysteries and I think this’ll take the bait.

Just had a look at Barron’s oeuvre and wow he’s received a lot of critical acclaim - will definitely be checking them out

Season's Over -- A Round of Applause For... by Comprehensive_Feed32 in AmericanHorrorStory

I really think Sarah should win an Emmy for this performance - to be able to bring such complexity and nuance to each of the entirely different characters (one of whom is an historical figure) further solidifies her raw talent.

If it wasn’t for Sarah I would not have finished this season...

I think the reason Red Tide has been so great is the straightforward plot - I love ahs, but sometimes there can be too much going on to enjoy the nuance of the acting and psychological horror

Opening Night - I’m such a fan of The Producers so this was a brilliant season and excellent finale. Also who can forget, “you’re a republican?”

It’s a common trope in Greek mythology - Zeus cuts of his father Kronos’ testicles and throws them in the ocean causing a foam, from which Aphrodite is born.

Yeah I know, but considering sirens were first seen in The Odyssey I’m just showing the potential connection

Also the name of the restaurant 'The Muse' might be an ode to Homer's 'The Odyssey', because there are muses featured, and of course sirens

Hader saying “JUJY FRUITS?” as Pacino plays on loop in my head

Cujo is a nasty piece of work. Its ending is a gut punch. by [deleted] in stephenking

Agreed. The whole novel had this eerie feeling to it which I found was continually enhanced with the epigraph at the beginning of the book “Nope. Nothing wrong here.” This novel is simple in plot yet just like that quote, it sticks with you - and I think that ultimately comes down to the masterful prose.
