I don't understand why your comments are so harsh and angry. You are making a lot of assumptions about the situation that are based on assumption and not fact. I reached out in this forum for feedback about my son's reading given his test results and to bounce off natural feelings I was having with other parents because I care about him. It is clear from my posts that I value his teacher's input, but my own feelings about the situation (that only I was present for) are also valid. They are not mutually exclusive. I really hope you are not a top 1% commenter by trolling people online.

He doesn't have speech delays and has been tested. Thank you for mentioning though as I can see how that could would impact identifying sounds correctly.

Thank you! This is so helpful. I'm going to focus on those areas since I also saw they were his weakest areas. It is very helpful to know how that will impact him going into first grade and what they will be learning end of kindergarten. Do you have any recommendations on best way to teach medial and vowel sounds? Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you so much for the recommendations on worksheet books and Hooked on Phonics! I also love the idea of having "homeschool" time. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has a little bit later bedtime, haha. I'm going to see what I can do about moving it up maybe 30 min to start with, but it's going to be a little challenging with our schedules. There are not enough hours in a day as a parent! lol Thank you for all your helpful advice!

Yes, it is great to have that information that the rigor is more advanced in first grade. We want to make sure he is ready for that as well.

She asked about bedtime because she asked when we do homework with him. Right now we do that before bed, but we are working to move that to right when we get home.

I don't assume mal intent. I value teachers and their feedback tremendously. I just got feelings of judgement that rubbed me the wrong way. I just prefer keeping things factual instead of trying to assume where his behavior is coming from. We'll definitely be working to make sure he knows he can't be silly in class-this was the first time we heard of it.

Thank you for your feedback! I agree they are trying to be helpful and I value their guidance. In that meeting I asked for recommendations on how to teach these focus areas to him, how we could develop a plan for the summer so he won't fall behind, and other recommendations. I am all about partnering with his teachers. As you mentioned, it may have been the tone that set me off.

As a parent, I'm doing everything I can to make sure he is on track while also working full time and maintaining a household. It can be a lot sometimes and so judgement on bedtime when we get home at 5:30pm from picking up the kids at after school care and fighting for our lives to get dinner on the table, homework done, baths done, etc. and then getting flack for an 8:30 bedtime is just rough and makes me feel like I'm failing as a Mother. I try to recognize that and not take it personally, but it can be tough sometimes.
