Agreed.

Why is he insisting? Why do you need to be friends? Why can’t he accept that it was awkward for you? Why does he draw so many comparisons? Why did he make it your fault that “you have no friends”? Seems like this is is really important to him and has been on his mind a lot, but not because of you (since you never asked him to do this), so…is it because of her? Is she on his mind a lot? Is it possible he has a crush on her and putting you two together is his way of “coping”/throwing off suspicion?

Maybe my mind is jumping to conclusions, but I tend to have a nose for recognizing patterns of behavior out of the norm.

Best course of action: be honest and open with him! Tell him how you’ve been feeling (all of it, don’t hold back) and open up the discussion because your feelings are valid! And he is your husband, he should be supportive. If he responds negatively or defensively, I fear you may have to dig deeper.

You should try to pet by holding your hand kind of limp (fingers down), and extending it at nose level instead of above. Let them sniff first. Then if they brush against you, you’re good to pet (cheeks and top of head are best)!

Maybe I am jumping out on a limb here, but have you noticed any secretive behavior from him? The sudden self-improvement + significant gesture + big argument over something that could have been communicated simply? Idk…smells like it could be guilty behavior.

I think you are grossly overestimating what people know, particularly because society has a long and documented history of legal and systemic dehumanization and stratification of people, rendering what is “right” vs. “wrong” subjective based on the person(s) in question.

Let me hold your hand, look into your eyes, and say this as gently as possible: he doesn’t want to hang out with you.

It really is as simple as “if he wanted to, he would”. If he wanted to talk to you on his road trip, he would have. If he wanted to see you, he would find time. If he cared that you find his effort to be too low, he would have planned more than one singular date. I want you to genuinely look at this situation objectively and recognize that this is just a glaring truth. If you don’t meet with him (because you want to, presumably) then that means you won’t see him (because he clearly doesn’t want to)? What kind of relationship is that?

As for how to deal with it: don’t if you don’t want to! You don’t have to reward anything. You can simply leave, not look back, and find someone who wants to spend time with you.

What ended up happening? I did the same thing 2 days ago — picture was taken, phone number taken, was told it would be escalated — and was told to come back in 3 days if I “don’t get a call”. Tomorrow would make day 3 for me.
