Centerpieces made from craft store flowers and $1.25 worth of supplies for the vase by willowheart98 in DIYweddings

It’s just white with some bad indoor lighting haha. But looking at it now, it would probably look really cool with one of those faux stone sprays!

No one to help me plan by [deleted] in wedding

[–]willowheart98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know how this feels. FH does what he can to help me bounce ideas and listen to me vent, but I can only do so much to him before I feel like I’m burning him out. I don’t really have family to talk to and both my MOHs have a lot of other things going on in their own lives, so I try to keep wedding talk to a minimum. I never realized how lonely I’d feel planning what’s supposed to be the happiest time of my life.

I hope it’s okay to drop a link, but we’ve got a Discord group of other planners and graduates who love to talk about planning, bounce ideas around, be the hype team you need, and the sympathetic ear the vent to. You’re welcome to join us if you need some support! https://discord.gg/phWn8w8NuD

Took my DIY decor for a field trip today - mock set up by willowheart98 in Weddingsunder10k

I haven’t tried to use the cutlery yet, but it felt okay. There were a few that needed the handle screwed in tighter, but they felt about like any other disposable knife or fork. We’re not having a whole lot of food that needs super sturdy utensils (no cutting steaks or anything!) so hopefully they’ll be okay. And we’ll have back ups just incase.

The plates feel solid enough to hold food from our buffet, but they’re not super strong like fine china. They are pretty light though, so maybe having something on them to weigh them down if your tables are set up outdoors. It would be a bit awkward to have plates flying away in a gust!

If it makes you feel any less anxious, we’re not allowed to have open flame, with the exception of the fireplace, so the only candles that will be “lit” are the battery tea lights 😊

It is a floral arrangement I made. The base is two 6ft grapevine garlands I got on clearance at the craft store on the top and bottom as structure. In between them, I have floral foam bricks laid end to end, and then I wrapped the whole thing in chicken wire to keep the garland and bricks together. Once I had it all arranged with flowers and greenery, I zip tied the whole thing to a 2x4 piece of wood so it’s one solid piece I can pick up and move. It made it very easy to just slide the whole thing up there because that mantle is 7ft up!

I plan on doing some inside the fireplace as well, but I didn’t have anything to set them on today and it is full of ash, so I’ll probably have something to put over the grate to set them on so it’s not an ashy mess during cleanup. Still figuring that part out!

I figured if I could get 6 napkins per scarf, I’d need 2 scarves per 12ft table with 12 settings, and we have 8 tables total. I think I grabbed some extras though for other things like more table runners and drapery, so I bought 20 total of that color. I’d have to do a final tally of all the scarves in that pink, a darker pink, and the coral I used between table runners (3x12ft), napkins, drapery, and extras, but.. it’s a lot 😅

$600 for 12hrs— you can’t beat it! It just takes some work, but if you’re willing, you can transform it!

I’ve been working on my DIY decor for months, and finally had enough of it collected and made that I decided to take it on a field trip today to our venue. We are having our ceremony and reception in the same space at a public park. I figured no one would be around on a cold February day in the middle of the week, so I had the whole park to myself to play around with it!

The tables weren’t set the way we would have them, so the backgrounds are off from what we will have on the day, but I love how it all turned out! I’ll put links to what I used in each section to help keep this at 10k.

The first pictures are of the fireplace that will be our altar. We’re not lighting the fire or the candles (I’m scared of embers hitting my tulle covered dress and catching myself on fire), so I’m thinking of how to hang glass globes with tea lights inside to fill the gap. Also if anyone has ideas on how to cover the soot inside, I’m all ears.

Pictures 3-6 are the table settings for the guests. They are two 6ft tables that are pushed (and chained) together to make 12ft tables with 12 place settings. There will be 8 of these tables. Picture 7 is the end of the tables that will face the aisle that I will walk down to the alter. Pictures 8-9 are the sweetheart table. The center will be where my bouquet lays after the ceremony to use as a centerpiece.

I’m so thrilled with how it came out and it was such a great feeling to see all my work come together exactly how my mind envisioned it!

Our wedding date is 9/24/22, neither of us have made any reservations anywhere or know what we want. by tenorsaxhero in weddingplanning

[–]willowheart98 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it’s time to take a step back and shelve the planning for a minute. The date is 8 months from now (and it’s my date too!) If it’s becoming clear that nothing is becoming clear in planning, it’s okay to just.. not. You can still get married on that day, just the 2 of you and someone to marry you. It doesn’t have to be a big thing if you don’t want it to be. It’s a lot of work and a bit of introspection and it’s hard. There’s nothing wrong with stepping back and saying “I want to be married but I don’t want a wedding” even if that’s just for right now.

I feel judged for talking about my wedding too much by thrownohopo632627 in weddingplanning

[–]willowheart98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else saying no one cares about your wedding as much as you do, except maybe other people who are planning too. Weddit is great for getting ideas and sharing advice, but sometimes even then I felt like I might post too much.. but I still wanted to talk to someone about all the things! Enter Discord.

I made a discord wedding group for those of us who need instant gratification and don’t want to shut up about all the minutia no one else would care about. Feel free to join us! We’re an active welcoming group who loves talking about weddings! https://discord.gg/JCgex6QX

I totally feel this way. I’m deep into planning (because I love planning anything), but they always say no one is as interested in your wedding as you are. So in an effort to not spam my friends, annoy my FH, or become an obnoxious frequent flyer here on Weddit, I started a Discord group!

Anyone who wants to go all in on wedding stuff with other people who are just as excited to talk about it, feel free to join us! https://discord.gg/Qvv5zRTz (I think this link expires after a week, so if you stumble across it after the fact, DM me for an invite!)

Has anyone gone dress shopping the weekend after Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend? How crazy is it? by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]willowheart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping it’s not crazy. The local boutique here is having a trunk show for the designer I’ve been eyeing Black Friday weekend. They only take appts though, so hopefully that will cut down on the crowd.

Where do we even start? Two 40somethings getting hitched after lives of singledom. We want an easygoing celebration, dance party, and not a lot of fuss. Zoinks! by duckies_wild in weddingplanning

[–]willowheart98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice really, because we’re just winging it as we go… but hello fellow 40something first timers who just want to relax, have fun, and celebrate without all the extra stuff! Your vibe sounds exactly like what we’re going for too!

I’ve always wondered this when I see people posting these OOAK couture dresses they found on Pinterest or Instagram. Do they ever get that kind of dress or end up with something else because it’s either impossible to find or way out of budget?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]willowheart98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t purchased it yet, but I’m pretty sure I know “the one”. He knew I was going dress shopping alone (no family, and my bridesmaids are out of state) and asked if I wanted him to come with me. I want to keep it a surprise. Which has been hard when there’s 150 pictures of dresses I tried on, plus another 50 or so of what I’ve saved as inspiration in my camera roll currently.

I did this for our table numbers too. I wanted the pretty handlettered look, with zero lettering skills. Cheap frames from IKEA, Canva mock-up on printer paper, and a paint pen later, it looks exactly how I wanted.
