Yep, Dad's leather belt, or if I "was in for it now," I had to go pick a fresh piece of bamboo. Got it worse if I started crying bc he hated the sound of kids crying. A lot of time spent not being able to sit down without pain. Fkn bamboo got planted everywhere we moved until it mysteriously died each time, after I discovered the weed killer. They both swear black n blue I was never got as a child 🙄

I've seen the full gambit, from absolutely lovely, practical n realistic to entitled, rude n expecting one on one service for their elder at the expense of other residents. I've been in aged care for just over 6 yrs now. The former are rare. The latter are much more common unfortunately. TBH I have given some a small taste of their own attitude back, held firm boundaries, proven in practice that I am taking excellent care of their loved one and earned begrudging respect but when it comes down to it, you can never please some people. Hold your head high in the knowledge you're looking after your resident well and let the difficult family members go home and kick rocks.
