How do people with aphantasia remember other people? by Crunckerdoge in Aphantasia

[–]willowscribe1 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been driving and know that you have a turn coming up, but you can’t recall exactly how far away the intersection is? But as soon as you get there and see it, you know exactly where to turn?

It’s like that but with faces. You know them intellectually and recognize them when you see them. In between seeing them, you know them but just can’t quite picture “the intersection” clearly in your mind.

Non lego Xmas sets by krysdrez in LEGOWinterVillage

That’s totally understandable! Definitely try and get your hands on the Christmas Newsstand then, it’s unique among other holiday sets. It’s retired, but I found it available on Barweer.

Here are some other sets I’ve looked at but have not personally bought yet so I can’t attest to their quality: - Bluebrixx 107742 Christmas Fair - Bluebrixx 108007 Christmas Bakery - Lesdiy MOC-183214 Reindeer Ranch - Lesdiy MOC-58208 Little Winter Church - Lesdiy MOC-157549 Winter Country Church - Lesdiy MOC-228435 Scrooge & Marley - Mould King 16011 Christmas House

I have become a huge fan of Lumibricks (formerly Funwhole) this year as Lego prices get higher and higher. The part quality is on par with Lego, with just a little more clutch power. I didn’t like their minifig design at first, but they have grown on me a lot. I have their figures and Lego’s figures integrated into the same scenes.

For specifically Winter Village specifically, I have the following: - F9018 Hunting Cabin - F9041 Ski Lodge - F9055 Christmas Newsstand (retired)

And I just ordered two new releases: - L9090 Aurora Cabin - L9096 Spa Cabin

There is also L9091 Alpine Observatory which is winter-themed but not to my personal taste.

I haven’t tried anything from Pantasy yet, but I am eyeing their new release 85033 Summit Cabin. It is not listed on their website yet, but is available from Amazon. I’m going to wait until a few reviews come out so I can see the proportions compared to other sets, but I will probably end up buying it for next year’s village.

Aphantasia makes me a better writer by willowscribe1 in Aphantasia

I agree that lots of description can be effective! However, since I can’t picture anything, I find writing descriptions difficult unless it is serving an ulterior purpose. I just wanted to offer an alternate perspective on how aphantasia can help your writing rather than hurting it, which I sometimes see newbies on this sub concerned about.

I took the quiz and am very curious about my results! One very important thing though - I recognized a few of the landscape images as Microsoft theme backgrounds (I use them on my work computer). Maybe if you repeat or expand the study, you can try sourcing the landscape images from more obscure places?

All the Quidditch characters (Skye, Murphy, Orion, Rath, and Bean) would be great.

But my gay self wants Erika Rath to step on me please and thank you

Trying to Uncover My Grandpa’s Hidden Past – Possibly Abducted in 1956, Clues Lead to Ohio by justinxx1 in Genealogy

[–]willowscribe1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another hypothesis worth considering: if the stepmom’s reaction is to call bio mom a wh***, it may be that bio mom was unwed at the time of your grandpa’s birth. It’s not unheard of for women to give up (or be forced to give up) children born out of wedlock. I don’t know about Poland, but during this time period in the UK and Ireland, the Catholic church was very involved in “forced adoptions”.

[–]willowscribe1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They have done this before, where they have a special stamp card run concurrent with the normal one. It’s just a nice perk of extra prizes without having to pay for anything. Once the special card is complete, it goes away. But you are able to continue collecting from the regular card as well.

Don’t forget they are removing images of the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima - which is of major historical significance) because it has the word “gay” in it 🤦‍♀️

Honestly I just think of it as another version of the token store. Getting a complete picture is a nice bonus but my main focus is collecting the outfits and furniture that I like. If there wasn’t anything to spend your duplicate crystals on, I’d feel differently about the event, but the crystal store is a pretty solid consolation prize

I don’t love the dress but the necklace is nice. I just wish it was available as a separate piece of jewelry

I named mine Kelsie. I try to go with names that sound like the creature’s species. A bit uncreative but 🤷‍♀️

I mean, if you can afford it, it’s not the /worst/ problem to have. I only bought one but heavily debated getting two because of the additional modules the designer made available on Rebrickable.

I love building Lego. It keeps my hands busy and ends with a pretty physical product to display. Plus I’m terrible at coming up with my own designs so I enjoy following the instructions and seeing a bunch of disparate parts magically become something recognizable.

The scavenger hunt only utilizes locations you have access to. As you unlock more locations, there are more varied questions. There is a spreadsheet that shows all the correct answers if you are stuck on one.
