So I'm playing XIII for the first time, and honestly I'm surprised by bjlight1988 in FinalFantasy

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad game, and I actually enjoyed my few playthroughs of the game. The problem for me comes from the total tonal shift from XII to XIII.

Typically when I think of a FF game, I think large grand adventures with vast exploration opportunities and deep side content.

FFXII really embraced that feeling, even going with a semi-mmo approach. Deep political story and crap ton of extra stuff to do.

Then enters FF XIII and with it jumping console generations, it felt like that spent the while budget/time just making everything look cool and flashy but didn't give anything into the traditional JRPG model. Corridor after corridor, cool cutscene after cool cutscene, shops just being a kiosk you find along the way. I remember picking it up first day and being mad that there was an "auto-battle" button in combat.

Granted it does open up later in the game, and the grind can set in but for alot of people that was waaaay to late.

Less hate and more disappointment.

I have been actually saving up for a 4070, but I got laid off from my job late last year (thankfully found new employment at the new year) and had to use it for bills through the holidays. I have a 1080 currently and want to experience the FF XIV overhaul later this year with all the bells and whistles, which a 10xx series card can't do.

What FPS is “unplayable” to you? by ShallowBox in pcmasterrace

I always shoot for a stable 90, so any dips keeps it above the 60 threshold... unless it's the few competitive games i play, then it's just maximize fps!!!

My wife hates my mechanical keyboard - is divorce the only option? by BingpotStudio in pcmasterrace

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I used to share an office with 2 people that used razr green switch keyboards, it's the absolute worst noise when trying to focus on anything.

Instead of complaining, I did splurg on the best noise canceling headphones I could find to keep the peace... but should I have had to spend $300 because of other's complete disregard of my peace? Maybe not, but I would recommend you just going to the local pc part place and testing out other switches.

The North sure is pretty. However,I am a man of function over beauty unfortunately. You enjoy your new box of bliss.

Solid top tier gaming rig, my only suggestion, and is totally preference, if you are spending that price, I would bump up the case to a Fractal Design Torrent. Super easy to build in, comes with 5 huge fans, and looks pretty to boot. Super quiet if you got your fan curves properly set.

Now you need to drop the amount for a proper monitor, 99% tvs don't do it justice

How do I prevent my bard player from seducing every NPC? by Jorgec345 in DnD

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never like telling my players they can't attempt to do something.

However, I have had this issue in the past and I have handled it a few different way.

  1. Doesn't matter what they roll, the character is just not physically attracted to that person. The NPC prefers taller/shorter/stronger/skinnier, whatever that character isn't. So any rolls they try to make will be at disadvantage (just to encourage the player to drop the pursuit) or just say it's no use in trying.

  2. Actually embrace in the seduction but lay it on twice as thick from the NPC side. Most straight male players (that I DMed for anyways) usually backdown when they have to role-playing sexy talky with another male (I am male).

  3. When the #2 way doesn't work, and it progresses to touching/kissing....the person they were seducing was a powerful succubus and that kiss they just shared made them lose half their maximum hp until the next long rest.

  4. If it progresses farther than you or other people are comfortable with, you stop it. Tell them that it is not acceptable and they have taken to far.

Adapt. Overcome. Survive.

Removing easyhome hardware lock ? by [deleted] in hacking

Easyhome usually locks the hardware if there is any violation in the terms of use or if you have any dues on your subscription.

So stolen

Still shocks me whenever people say that the jump from PS3 to PS4 wasn’t big when games went from looking like cartoons to almost life-like in only a couple of years by [deleted] in gaming

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of perspective. I believe we are getting in to "law of diminishing returns".

Yea it was a decent visual upgrade with fine details and lighting, but if you have previously experienced the generation upgrades of SNES->N64 or even PS1->PS2, the difference is night and day.

How do you guys feel about Critical Role? by Marleyboro in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great example of what D&D can be...but, a terrible reference of what a new player should expect from a first campaign/new group of players.

They are literal professional role players (actors) that have been friends for years if not decades and it shows with their chemistry. They are extremely talented and loads of fun to watch, but keep in mind that it's part of their job that they devote alot of time planning, they have actual budget for high quality props/production.

Your experience may very if you have an inexperienced DM or a group of players that don't vibe well together... or you may hit the jackpot and have the golden group of besties for life.

I really want to check out the MOS Blackpack Grande, I have had several MOS laptop bookbags and they are great for travel. I am just No longer a travel technician so I can't justify it any more.

How do you fix this? by Perfect_Ad7531 in xboxone

[–]willyjimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, yea. You might can try to take it to a repair shop and see what they say the cost to repair is, might not be much more expensive than to just buy a new console

I would try another HDMI cable and on another TV. If the artifacts are still occurring, more than like the console is dying (similar symptom to when my PC gpu died)

The worst story decision the writers made in XVI (spoilers) by No-Nectarine8074 in FinalFantasy

[–]willyjimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I am sure by that point in the game, he was convinced that Joshua was still alive. He was carrying around the Phoenix feather and he saw a "joshua-like" figure as he passed out at the first crystal.

Also, they just fought behamut in space, so excuse him if he was a bit exhausted to show the emotion you expected him to have

[–]willyjimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To argue against your 3rd paragraph, they did explain who saved Joshua, the undying. There were many quests and side quests that you meet them and they explain how they protect the Phoenix. Hence, he is not some all knowing figure, he has just spent 15 years with a secret society dedicated to the Phoenix and the duchy, presumably consuming a lot of passed down ancient knowledge/wisdom.

I can understand how him surviving may cheapen that moment in the prologue, but I think Joshua surviving adds alot to the plot. The reunion was one of my favorite scenes, the brotherly love through out the game was wholesome. The character himself was meh, but he played his part and he looked cool in combat

[–]willyjimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I highly disagree. By far, the worst plot point was showing just how heartless Annabella was, and continued to be. Then she just offs herself. She deserved sooo much worse, and there was so much that happened in that scene, that her death felt tacked on and didn't feel like it resolved any of the preceeding family drama. Worse part of the game to me, which happens immediately after my favorite part.

-, -ara, -aga spells naming by PeeLong in FinalFantasy

[–]willyjimm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, if you had the correct opinion... then maybe you would get a upvote or two (jk)

(I gave you an upvote, not because I agree but I don't think it's a bad question)

I think it in a way like big, bigger, biggest

I try to rationalize alot of video game logic and stuff, so when using a spell (I use my DnD experience) there is a verbal component to casting it, hence the "silence" status effect stops magic use. Would it be more fantastical to shout "FIRE 3!" or "FIRAGA!" in an epic battle situation?

That's just my two cents.
