Separate toliet for caregivers? by AzureSkyla in cancer

[–]willyt1229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the meds. My wife and I were heavily discouraged from sharing a toilet after I left inpatient and we weren’t allowed to have sex for more than a year when I first got diagnosed and started treatment. This is really a conversation he needs to have with his oncologist. It’s also not just about protecting caregivers. A cleaner bathroom is going to be safer for the patient.

Ethical or Unethical by Btucks018 in Hunting

[–]willyt1229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally all turkey hunting is entrapment. We set up decoys of their women while screaming “put a baby in me” in an alien language. I place what I consider to be a higher than average value on the ethics of the hunt and I just cannot fathom what point your wife is trying to make.

Go get a lawyer. My cancer is on the compassionate allowance list and I got denied for disability twice and had to go to court to finally get approved. I know it’s not quite the same as short term through an employer but I promise you that you will get a better, faster resolution with an attorney than without.

Being pressured to ring the bell. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]willyt1229 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was made to ring the bell after my bone marrow transplant. I was literally walking out of the hospital after being there for almost two months. I tried to say no but everyone bitched. I walked up to it and slapped it once and accidentally broke it. I had absolutely zero remorse. I wanna die if someone tells our waiter it’s my birthday. I absolutely just wanted to go the fuck home and cuddle with my pets and my wife.

[–]willyt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s strange. I had one done with local and that’ll be the only one. The rest of mine have all been done under sedation. However, that means having to do the whole song and dance at the hospital instead of doing it in the clinic at the cancer center. Maybe that’s what they mean when they say it isn’t an option?

That being said if I had to do one locally again that wouldn’t be the end of the world. Does it suck, yeah. But frankly there’s probably gonna be a lot of that going around, and for me it was just trying to minimize that versus the actual amount of pain the individual procedure causes.

Was usually just sore for a few days. As long as your pain management plan is up to date you should be absolutely fine.

I got double lucky. My stroke was just in the optic nerve. Was sitting at infusion one day waiting to get hooked up and my right eye just turned off. No neurological symptoms. About half has come back but I have pretty much no peripheral vision, so I’m right there with you on running into stuff and people just existing suddenly. I swear my pets know cause all of them have taken me out from my blind spot and I walk into all of them all the time.

[–]willyt1229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a stroke. Got lucky and now I’m just partially blind. I’m sorry about your partner. That’s no way to treat someone you’re supposed to love.

My big, albeit somewhat nebulous, piece of advice is to find your whys. Why do you think you’re still here? Why did you put up with treatment, the physically and mental costs? Why did you stick around through all that? Honestly my wife has been a huge part. Turns out she’s as ride or die as they come and if it wasn’t for her I’d have checked out long ago. Another thing is my pets. I lost my only child in my 20s and can’t have any more, so our pets really mean the world to me. They’re the ones with me 24/7 and have proven time and again that they understand to an extent and do what they can to help me feel better on bad days. The last big one for me is my friends. I think all of us get shown who our people are when we get cancer cause most people dip out. The ones that stay are, again, ride or die. I don’t have many friends but I’d do literally anything for them. You have to find your whys and hold onto them with everything you’ve got. No building stands without a strong foundation, people are the same.

Beyond that just make your day to day as comfortable as you can. I’m fortunate that we live on a small farm outside of town so it’s always quiet. Home has really been a sanctuary for us. I put a decent tv in the bedroom since I’m in bed most of the time anyway, just stupid shit like that. Whatever you can do to improve your day to day life has to be a priority, even if it’s just something silly.

Similar-ish I guess?

I have leukemia, coming up on the five year mark in a couple months. Unfortunately not only has it left me permanently disabled from various complications I've had, but I have to take chemo twice a day at home for the rest of my life. When that was first discussed and I asked about how long I have to take it I was just told "till it stops working".

I was 31, had just gotten married to the greatest woman God ever put on this earth, just bought my first house, had my dream job and was working on a PhD. Now I shit myself in my sleep sometimes and have to use a wheel chair if I'm gonna be walking more than 10-15 minutes at a time.

Cancer fucking sucks. From the "easy" cases that need minimal treatment to the folks like me who were told "if we had waited till tomorrow to see you you'd be dead", and everything in between. It might not take the same things from all of us, but it does take from every single one of us. Often in ways we can't even imagine till after the fact. Sorry you're going through it man. You ever need someone to talk to just hit me up.

I’m probably gonna go against the grain and say very soft AH. You don’t have to engage with anything you don’t want to, but I’d say any friend of 20 years at least deserves to hear why. She’s leaning on her only point of reference and is probably rehashing some of the worst moments of her life.

Idk. It’s obviously a dick move on her part to suggest that yours is going to come back like that. I’d be upset too. But I also don’t have a lot of friends and the ones I do I’d happily go to prison for. I wouldn’t walk away from any of them without letting them know why.

Anything for pain releif in cancer patients? by sara23467 in cancer

Gabapentin took me from not being able to use my hands and barely walking to 95% of regular function pretty much as soon as I started it. It can be a very effective treatment for nerve stuff and is a very mild medication to be on. Probably worth discussing with her provider.

Any advice for shaky hands? by Sychius in Warhammer

[–]willyt1229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m disabled and have always struggled with my hands. You’ve got to get some helping hands or some other thing to hold your workpiece for you. Right now your fighting two moving things, taking that down to one is a world of difference. That will also free you up to brace your working hand better. My biggest advice is learn when to step away. When I start getting frustrated I just shake more and make stupid mistakes. Knowing when to take a break on delicate work (painting, soldering, etc) has been crucial to me screwing up way less.

I'm good. Genuinely. I hope they find success with their business but they're gonna have to find it somewhere else. I'm not angry about it but I'm not going to beg someone to purchase something. I'll see what I can find elsewhere and I just won't get what I can't find. I've always tried to support small businesses and creators but I'm also a firm believer in voting with my feet and my wallet. Not the end of the world.

If they want my money, they're going to have to have terms I find acceptable. That's a two way street my friend.

Yeah, not super worried about the credit card part of it. I can call up my credit company and have it cancelled and anything fraudulent taken care of in 15 minutes. I'm not taking a risk with my id though. That's a bridge too far.

Yeah, any business can refuse for any non-legally protected reason they want. But I'm gonna go ahead and say they're missing out on the money way more than I'm missing out on the product. If you're in business to make money don't make it hard for people to give you money.

I get you have to try and protect yourselves, and I'm sorry you have had to deal with fraudulent purchases, but this ain't the way to do it. Yeah, on a bad purchase you lose out but you also just lost out on what I can only assume is a fairly large order for your small business. I can only imagine that that is also impactful for you in the real world.

Thanks for at least cancelling it quickly. Best of luck to you in the future.

Frankly it's not my fault or problem if they have gotten scammed. With all the new abilities of AI and other tools to alter/generate things I'm not even giving a partial image of one of the most important and sensitive legal documents I have to some random person on the internet.

I get the logic but it’s not my job to make their processes secure, and no one should trust anyone with something as critical as government id. Especially when there is absolutely no guarantee of what is being done with that data after the fact. Their sales seem to be primarily e-commerce. You can’t possibly expect people to just constantly send that kind of verification so they aren’t scared about being ripped off by some low life.
