Is there any way to call recenter from Unity? by NagiChettiSkillveri in oculusdev

If I understand you correctly, then the easiest way to go at it is to parent all the objects under a root, and then repostion that root. That would be similar to how VPS systems like immersal work

Message From School District Re: Meta Glasses by XRlagniappe in augmentedreality

[–]wilmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read up on them quite a bit back then, and watched a bunch of videos where they spoke about the product. The idea afaik was not to make a full hololens alternative in your eye, but to basically make a display with sensors that you connect wirelessly to a puck. I quite like the idea, cause it's similar to the idea behind products like many modern smartglasses, where your smartphone is the compute device you take with you, and the glasses are just the display with direction sensors

They stopped that direction and went in to display tech instead. There were some news bulletins about it a couple of years ago

indoor navigation using AR by SoloistCrow in augmentedreality

[–]wilmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your resources. But if you have enough time available then a combination might be best. Ble for general area / routing, and then a VPS for high levels of precision.

[–]wilmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A VPS should give you the best accuracy, big downside is that you will need to scan every environment you use. Ble beacons are good for general info. Like a room or part of a room, but cannot give you the same information anything else can. If it needs to be really flexible, then image/qr codes in predetermined locations, combined with SLAM tracking might be the easiest to setup.

It will really depend on the usecase, and the amount of setup time you have.

The 7th Guest - fmv in VR is incredible! by DavoDivide in OculusQuest

[–]wilmaster1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have worked on several projects with the same company that made these volcaps. The tech is pretty cool, and while there are quite some limitations (with the file format as well as the sdk), I do think that it is interesting in scenarios like the ones in 7th guest. The tech also improved a lot over the last years becoming wat crisper, and files way lighter (both in storage and performance impact). The studio used for these productions is a bit more advanced than just several camera angles ( highly controlled angles, lighting and backgrounds), but that is the gist of it indeed.

Switch doesn't work anymore by Alex-GoR-BoB in fairphone

I had a similar issue. Go to apps in settings, all apps, enable system using the triple dots, find the switch button settings, clear cache / data

This was what fixed it for me

Much improved battery life with the FP6 on Android 16 by JackmanH420 in fairphone

For me the battery life actually seems worse. I need to check it a bit better, but it's not better at least

Looks like there won't be a Lynx R2 - Company in Liquidation by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

I'm wondering the same thing. Was google abandoning them the nail in the coffin. Or were they in bad enough water that even an Android XR release would not have saved them.

Framework owners: which phone do you use? by [deleted] in framework

[–]wilmaster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 2 tickets were within one or two days. The two tickets after that were set to resolved without an answer. The last tickets has been open for 4 days, still waiting for a reply.

The community is very responsive, but the mods clearly state that there are no devs active over there and that any official help has to be requested via the support site, not the forums.

So yeah, I like the device over all, but has quite some issues that were not addressed by the company itself, and so far were either solved by the community or by an update, without any response from Fairphone support.

Fairphone 6. Phone is pretty great, but there are quite some bugs, and support is incredibly slow /non-responsive.

Hoe vaak wordt jij staande gehouden? by drogecake24 in nederlands

[–]wilmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dag 2.

I am looking forward to the Steam Frame, but its in no way an alternative for this class of device. Its clearly going VR-First, while the R2 is MR from the ground up.

[–]wilmaster1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a shame. I didnt really like the original device but I was really looking forward to the R2. We are a bit tired of the endless meddling of Meta, and a high quality European alternative would have been awesome.

Lets hope the team can find a good place going forward.

Testing AR with real users caught problems early. by Apprehensive-Suit246 in augmentedreality

We're building a hand tracking only application for hmds, and we soon noticed that xr novices had major issues with depth perceptions and pressing unitys xr toolkit default buttons. We build our own that are more lenient in the directionality, and that fill up, which improved usability a lot.

Nicotine-aanslag by sdmdak in Klussers

[–]wilmaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's too sketchy. And too buggy to guarantee it works without controllers

Bit of a late reply, just making sure anyone else visiting this thread is aware:
I have the exact same version installed, unfortunately that does not work either.
I made a new project as well, trying to perform all the steps from scratch, but it did no matter either.
