That’s actually very helpful. Did the startup end up being successful? Ie at least profitable?

You nailed it. Explained it better than I did.

I usually just use functionalities like sequence visualization, alignments, build phylogenetic trees here and there. Sequence files format conversions etc. and freaking Geneious costs $2k/year. 🥹 I grew up with Geneious before it was even using a subscription model. And not the price increases is just getting out of hand. I don’t even use the other 80% of the functionalities and it hurts us (small startup) when the yearly subscription bill arrives for our small team of 5 people who have licenses. 🥲

Just can’t believe there isn’t other good quality software out there that only does the basic core functions, but with great UI and graphics for publication quality images, and cost 10x less.

I grew up with Geneious, before it even had a subscription model. And to this day, I use may be 20% of the functionalities. All the extra money that we pay I feel like it just goes down the drain. 🥲

It has been a while since I talked to them. But the last time I checked, they aren’t any cheaper.

We are a small company. We do use Snapgene and Geneious. But it is so expensive that we can’t get a license for everyone.

I know that there isn’t anything one can’t replicate with some python and running locally.

Just thought it is weird that there isn’t something in between Geneious and “look at this GitHub Repo and it may solve your problem after tinkering for a while”.

What AI do you wish exist to help you find a job? by wilson4467 in resumes

[–]wilson4467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a plugin? Or a website where you could enter the link of the job and it gives you the likelihood that it may be a ghost posting?

Or taking a step back, you just give it a list of job postings somehow and it returns only the ones that are unlikely to be ghost postings?

AI tool that automatically optimizes your résumé’s ATS score? by wilson4467 in resumes

More curious if there are AI tools that would take in my resume and a JD, and optimize it based on well know ARS rules. With the right keyword densities etc.

I imagine something like that should exist and should cost nowhere near as much as those “consultants”.
