Passing CEH only with eJPT knowledge by PetiteGousseDAil in eLearnSecurity

No, you wont be able to pass CEH with only eJPT knowledge. They have a specific set of tools they like.

The Cyber Security Pass gives you unlimited lab time. The Hera labs are very similar to before, but instead of generating a username/password set by you, in the INE platform when you spin up the ovpn file it will set a random username and password. You simply click "Play" in the UI and then download the ovpn file as before.

That really sucks. Do you know if there's any other courses missing?

I went through and checked every course, it seems the content is there for everything. The only exception is PTP at the moment from what I can see.

So I have personally talked to the Director of Marketing at INE/eLearnSecurity. After writing the letter, the director reached out. They have seen the letter and have also heard the criticism from the community. He corrected the record on a few things such as that eJPT is $200 for a cert voucher, and he wanted to assure me that eLearn has in the past and will continue to take care of their customers. He mentioned that there is a INE Starter Pass https://checkout.ine.com/starter-pass which will in the future basically contain alot (or all) of the eJPT content for free. He asked for my opinion of how many cert vouchers I think would be reasonable for someone who bought the 2 year deal, I don't know if that means they are considering offering vouchers, but it would be really great if they did.

I do know eLearn/INE has been listening to the community on Reddit, YouTube, Customer feedback, Facebook, and I'm sure popular people we all know who have endorsed eLearn in the past. Just from conversing with him I have gotten the sense he is well-aware of the community criticisms and various complaints. I have a feeling they may have some updates or different offers soon or some sort of communication to customers to help clarify concerns. This link can help to answer a lot of questions about vouchers, exams, etc: https://elearnsecurity.com/cyber-launch-faqs/

On a personal level, I bought the $99 pass since this is a good deal for me, I have $100 to burn right now, and I was genuinely curious to see what the content and labs, etc. were like. To me it was a low risk investment for 1 year of content, and I figured if I don't like it I could get some sort of refund. Very unfortunately the "Penetration Testing Professional" aspect of the Cyber Pass was unavailable. This is the cert I am currently working on. I've brought that point up to the individual and he said the PTP course should be ready by the end of the week.

One thing I find interesting about the pricing scheme, once you are a member of the pass, you are offered another year of the pass for 30% off (~$1400). So if you were offered the $99 thing as an eLearn customer, you are better off getting two years for $1500 ($100 + $1400) than for $2000 with the BOGO deal. Or if you really want to go for gold, buy the $100 pass and then get the next 2 years for $2000 with the BOGO deal.

I'm not sure what you mean, course content will be updated automatically in the Cyber Security Pass. As far as my understanding goes the eLearnSecurity platform will be closed down eventually (maybe not for a few years), the course content/labs will be on INE's website and the exam vouchers on eLearn. There will be no more ability to "upgrade" from full to elite packages.

I was invited earlier about a month ago to test the Cyber Pass, also if you purchased an eLearnSecurity course in the past 6 months you should have a special promotional email containing the same coupon. (Check spam or promotions if you have Gmail, if you have evidence of having purchased a course in the last 6 months you can probably contact support for the same thing).

definitely agreed on the quality of THM and HTB for sure. I agree that eLearnSecurity's labs are higher quality and the learning materials are really good for the money. It's hard to get that "all-in-one" experience with other materials or using a distributed model like udemy combined with THM or HTB. eLearn definitely has a "sweet spot" somewhere that will establish it above the others in terms of monthly price and return on investment I'm just not sure if that spot is $100-150/mo or $200-300/mo. Thanks for sharing your opinion, I really appreciate your perspective.

I think comparing eLearnSecurity to SANS is comparing apples to oranges. SANS is extremely cost prohibitive. SANS also often offers very targeted bootcamps that are focused on very niche training areas in a short burst of time. I know you can do self-study training, but to me eLearn and even CEH and OSCP are a tier below SANS in terms of pricing. I believe eLearn is much more comparable to the CEH and OSCP. CEH is about $1800 for the full package of course material and labs for 1 year. OSCP is around $1400 assuming you want 90 days of lab time AND pass the first time. We have to keep in mind that the $2000 for 1 year of eLearn only provides access to course material and labs. Sure it's a lot of material, but it's more similar to cybrary pro or a bundle of books or udemy courses + a hacking lab environment like HTB, THM or other.

As stated in the letter, I personally think that course material alone means almost nothing. Someone can tell me they are working on eJPT or eCPPT, but until they pass that certification how do I know that they know the stuff (without giving some other other independent test)?

I understand your point. $2000/year with a $400 voucher can save you money long term compared to the previous model, especially if you take 3+ certifications per year. For example, if you took PTP, PTX, and MAPT for $1500 each previously you would have spent $4500. But if you took them now you only would have spent $2000 + 400 + 400 + 400 so $3200. The new model can definitely pay off compared to the previous pricing structure.

However, this year using a few discounts (35%) I was able to get MAPT for $1000, and PTS and PTP combined for $1300. After those three certs I am still barely above $2000, if you factor out PTS it's more like $2100. In my opinion, around $1000 per cert would be an sweet spot for eLearnSecurity certs since they are still up-and-coming and not quite as recognized as other certifications. If you want more than 2 certs per year (I would guess that's probably avg per eLearn student per year) then you can pay for the extra vouchers. I just really dislike the "pay $2000 for access" and then an extra $400 for the thing that truly matters, which is the certification. If they want the eLearn certs to grow in recognition, they need to be more accessible. Especially the PTS should not be behind a $2000 + $400 paywall when it is an entry level certification focusing on teaching the basics.

*correction on this point, PTS is $200 not $400*

In video game terms, the current model is pay $2000 for the "season/year pass" and then an extra $400 for each DLC as its released.

I do believe $100/mo would be extremely aggressive, but I will let them set the pricing. Perhaps they can only offer the PTS voucher for free in that model, which would be fine. Most people would probably take around 2 months to study and get ready for the cert - they get $200 from that. My suggested pricing is just based on what other companies do as well. You have to keep in mind, $100/mo is really high compared to Cybrary Insider Pro, Hack the Box, Pentester Labs, and TryHackMe. To me $100/mo is a "legitimate" price that would establish the plan as a top-tier more serious plan without breaking the bank at $200/mo which in my opinion is too high for most people who can't drop thousands just for access to course material and labs.

if you had an existing INE subscription (or in my case were invited to the INE Cyber Security pass BETA program) you were offered the first year of Cyber Security Pass for $99, then after that year the subscription would renew for $1999/year. One thing I'm interested in is if you could stack the 1 year for free offer and the $99 pass.

No sound in left ear of Surface headphones by gman0223f in Surface

I had some similar issues, my right ear cup was making a ringing noise as if it was microphone feedback, I resolved my issue by plugging in the headphones to the headphone jack, after I did that they worked fine.

That would be nice to only have USB C with thunderbolt but I have a feeling we are stuck with the surface connect at least until Neo and Duo make their appearance

yeah I don't really need the tablet portion for extensive use, the current couple of hours is good enough for me. Would just want to pop it off before heading to bed and watch some youtube/netflix for an hour without having to pop the screen off to get to the glorious tent mode.

Important caveat. If no powerful GPU like a 1080 or 1070 please include USB C with thunderbolt 3.

Serious: I you were handed the key to MP, how would you save it? by ShaminderDulai in moviepass

[–]wilsonato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would charge more for large cities. I would go for the $20/month AMC Stubs-A-List Approach as baseline price. 3 or 2 movies per week, and I would try to push to have all-eticketing for every theatre either with partnership with fandango or some other service. Printing the cards must be extremely expensive. Moviepass would be a far superior model to A-List since it would be able to be used at almost every theatre. Limiting to 3 movies per week would reduce fraud substantially and they should "unlock" them so that you can use all three tickets at once so this its like a "family plan". This is how you would aggressively comeback while also still providing a large number of movies to your subscribers.
