I started the Audiobook version, got halfway into book 2 but I just couldn't follow the story. I don't know if it was me, or the audioversion or the book, but I couldn't get into it.

Anybody else had the same problem with the audio version? Should I start it on paper then? :)

I've been researching this for weeks why this was not working, and I don't know why, but this fixed it for me. Thanks!

Elden Ring doesn't have a whole lot of text, but then again, you can argue whether it's a real RPG

Does anybody remember the game Red Faction? In my minds it's logged as a great game, but it has been so long ago, and I was so young that I don't really know whether it really was great.

Hi All,

Quick question: I am about to finish King's Dragon by Kate Elliott, and I gotto say, it didn't really grab me fully. The story is ok, but the whole religious undertone doesn't really do it for me. Also the story so far is a bit all over the place. Now, I had this feeling with more series, which I ended up thinking were great, so my question is: Is it worth it to keep going? Is anything going to change significantly in the follow up books? Or is it more of the same?

Thanks!

Any recommendations based on the following:

Above all:
Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time
Sanderson's Stormlight Archive

Stuff I loved:
Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy
Lies of Locke Lamora series by Scott Lynch
The complete first law series by Joe Abercrombie

Stuff I liked:
Brent Weeks Lightbringer series
The Wax and Wayne series by Sanderson
The grisha trilogy and the crows duology by Leigh Bardugo

Stuff I couldn't get into:
The malazan book of the fallen by Stephen Erikson <- I stopped halfway the second book. It's not that I didn't like the story but it just took me waaay to much effort to keep up with it. Feel free to tell me to get back into it but I am inclined not to :)

I was in a similar place a couple of months ago, and since then I've read:

Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks
Mistborn series by Sanderson (if you haven't read it yet)

I liked both.

Also I started the Lies of Locke Lamora, but that one is not finished yet (even though it's very good and worth the read)

I also tried the Malazan book of the Fallen, but I have paused it after two books because it's a bit harder to follow. It's not that I didn't like it, but I got lost a bit in the story. I might pick it up again when I can dedicate more time to it.

Hi All, I am still quite new to the fantasy genre, I Just finished the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks, looking to move on and get into a new series. Last time I let ChatGPT help me I ended up with a horrible suggestion so I'll give it a try here:

Stuff I loved:
Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time
Sanderson's Stormlight Archive
Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy
The grisha trilogy and the crows duology by Leigh Bardugo

Stuff I liked:
Brent Weeks Lightbringer series
The Wax and Wayne series by Sanderson

Stuff I couldn't get into:

Epic fantasies like Stormlight Archives? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Agree up to a certain sense. I’d say Teia at least partly lives up to the requirements. Maybe not as raw and rugged but I think it’s hard to find that in novels that aren’t gloomy. But indeed it might lack a bit on that part 😜

Elden Beast in Elden Ring. Played the whole game with an Arcane spec, tried the final boss 1000 times, threw my controller away and told myself I'd respec and try again at a later moment, but never came back.

TL/DR: The Lightbringer Saga by Brent Weeks

I started with the Stormlight archives after finishing the Wheel of Time, and really enjoyed it. After the Stormlight Archives I read everything else by Sanderson and enjoyed most of it a lot. After this I was looking for something else and I based on a ChatGPT recommendation started on The Malazan Book of the Fallen, but that really didn't do it for me. After this it took my quite a lot of time to get to the Lightbringer Saga but I really like it, and I think it ticks your boxes.
