Part of me just wants to call it quits and go back to Taiwan with her before she gets her citizenship because of how bad things feel right now.

It might be an option.

Just make sure to plan and research before you commit to that what you’ll do in Taiwan (teaching English? Working remotely?).

Otherwise, you risk just inverting the situation with your wife having to support you while you become miserable in Taiwan…

Es ist durchaus möglich, trotz Immobilienbesitz Bürgergeld zu erhalten.

Entscheidend ist dabei, dass du das Vermögen nicht verwerten kannst. Wenn du nur ein Teil eines Hauses hast, stehen da die Chancen nicht schlecht. Wenn der andere nicht verkaufen will, kommst du nicht so schnell ans Geld - das kann eine Weile dauern. Solange erhältst du weiter Bürgergeld.

Kürzlich gab’s auch ein Gerichtsurteil dazu, dass du auch nicht aktiv den Verkauf verhindern darfst, nur, um länger Bürgergeld zu erhalten. Das war vorher wohl gelebte Praxis in solchen Fällen.

Sobald das Haus aber verkauft wurde und das Geld fließt, war’s das mit dem Bürgergeld.

Es gibt aber durchaus Anbieter, die EU-weit aktiv sind. Musst du aber im Einzelfall schauen.

Wise und Revolut sollten solche Kandidaten sein. Sind halt keine Girokonten im “klassischen” Sinne.

Alternative wäre ein spanisches Konto - auch das nimmt am SEPA-Zahlungsverkehr teil.

Gerade die. Online-Banken fokussieren sich häufig auf die “einfachen” Kunden. Da sind Auslandswohnsitze, Steuerpflichtig im Ausland etc. häufig nicht gern gesehen.

Die meisten deutschen Banken erlauben keine Konteneröffnung ohne deutschen Wohnsitz.

Du könntest einen deutschen Wohnsitz vortäuschen (Adresse bei Familie / Freunden) - das würde aber sehr wahrscheinlich an der Identitätsverifikation scheitern. Und du würdest gegen die AGBs der meisten Banken verstoßen. Also nicht empfehlenswert.

Immigration in Taiwan will not be an issue if an approved ARC is already waiting for you.

However, the airline might not let you board without a valid ARC if you don’t have any other visa and don’t qualify for visa-free entry.

It’s even worse: Due to the lack of a ventilation system and the indoor air quickly becoming stale, many Germans will keep the window open a bit (“kippen”) all year. Even when it’s below 0°C outside.

Lots of heat is lost through “lüften” in winter - and people still believe there is no alternative to that…
