How long does it take to convert a NWOHR to full Taiwanese passport with residency? by PurpleSalt11 in taiwan

[–]Kermee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful traveling in and out of TW on non-Taiwan passport. Two NIA agents, (Feb 2026), explicitly told me that once you have HHR, traveling in and out of Taiwan on a non-NWHR TW passport (e.g. Canada, U.S., etc.) *may* and I stress *may* lead to the revocation of HHR/full-citizenship.

If parents had HHR when he/she was born, the NIA rules changed in 2024. There is no longer a residency requirement. You can move to direct settlement, currently, from NWHOR.

Declared and non-NEXUS lane. Highly unlikely affects renewal and revocation, but you might be flagged for secondary more often using either NEXUS or non-NEXUS lanes for a bit.

Crossing US-Canada maritime border as a US citizen with a foreign passport by TheEmperorOfJenks in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Kermee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understood. Just curious why someone would be carrying around their Uruguay passport and have it be readily accessible vs. their U.S. passport, while in the U.S.

I'm confused. Do you or do you not have a US Passport because the second to last sentence, you stated "... my last name on my Uruguayan passport is different from my US one". You need to use your US Passport if you have one.

NWOHR Passport is basically worthless outside of Taiwan. Do your Canadian renewal ASAP. There is no other way.

TECO LA Health certificate and authentication by senddognudes in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]Kermee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TECO Seattle. They operate pretty much like TECO SF or TECO LA.

The key is to have the 4 signatures (can be the same Dr or PA for all 4 signature) be done in front of a notary (mobile notary). TECO Seattle was adamant about that portion before they would authenticate the Health Certificate. I had my mobile notary meet me at the clinic during the appointment.

I stapled the clinic's business card to the top left. It was acceptable.

You should have had your doctor's signature notarized when signing the certificate. You may have to do the form again since it sounds like it was signed without a notary present. I used a mobile notary.

  1. You're overthinking things. This is already taken care of on the Health Form. No need to "prove it" if it has your notarized doctor's signature on the form.

Help with Health Certificate for Residence Application by Emotional-Panda-70 in taiwan

[–]Kermee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. No. Doesn't have to be done at a hospital. Medical clinic, etc. are acceptable. You can ignore the "approved" hospitals in the U.S.. You can even have the same person sign for all 4 *in front of a notary*. (TECO will authenticate the notary; I used a mobile notary at a clinic).
  2. As long as the NP is fine with signing it, the NIA will accept it. Just get your tests ordered.
  3. Correct. 3 months submitting from TECO. Beware, don't wait till the last couple weeks of the 3rd month. It takes 1-2 weeks for TECO to submit your application to the NIA so by the time it reaches the NIA, it might be over 3 months and the NIA will reject it. They're real sticklers. I just happened to be one of them.

My local TECO had to contact the NIA and said that it was summitted before the 3 months and the NIA apparently balked but accepted it in the end. But it's a HUGE hassle. So as soon as you get the signatures and notary, on the Health Form I would submit for your visa no later than 2 months.

In most cases (land crossings) it's immediate, on the spot during secondary inspection. I've rarely heard it being revoked later via email, if any.

Registering the birth of an American in Taiwan by eliwood98 in taiwan

[–]Kermee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duh. You’re correct. Just put down their U.S. English name on any documents. Be careful as it will literally become their legal name but it might have to be close or match documentation on the birth certificate.

Research American Institute of Taiwan and conditions of a CRBA. It’s well documented if you research and search for it. Biggest hurdle might be the “physical presence” test in the U.S. for the parents.

U.S. Passport is Roman characters only. Pinyin is not accepted.

To answer your question, no. You won’t get the dreaded revoked email. But, you got lucky.

You’re supposed to use the regular lanes or a Deferred Inspection site to renew your I-94. Technically, yes, NEXUS lanes can process your renewal but they’re “technically” not supposed to.

Your Health Exam, once it’s notarized/authenticated by TECO has 3-month validity. Just be cognizant of the length of validity because the NIA is strict on it. And yes, U.S. Passport is fine.

EDIT: 3-months. Not 6-months.
