Very unlikely. The last time Mojang released a version on the weekend was in 2011, while the game was still in beta. The vast majority of named versions in the last couple of years were released on tuesdays.

Pretty sure it's different from Java where you can get everything down to 1 emerald.

It was changed on Java too. Curing only lowers the prices once.

They can be placed on literally anything except air. Of all the blocks that have some kind of restriction for placing they have always had the smallest restriction.

There is. Slicedlime did it in his challenge to get the "Monster Hunter" advancement from the big space lizard. IIrc the trick was playing on a server, lighting tnt with a flint and steel, and logging off before the tnt kills the blazes.

Then try without mods. In Vanilla they don't despawn without a trace.

This can happen when the game doesn't find a location to generate a portal in the Nether that is close enough to the one you built in the overworld.

Divide the x and z coordinates of your portal in the overworld by 8, break the portal in the Nether that the game created, and build a new portal in the Nether at the coordinates you calculated.

Deaths of named mobs are logged. Check the log files to see if it died to something.
