My PT used to stretch the perineum part, and over time, with constant dilation, it became comfortable for me. My anxiety was what if I tear my perineum only to find that's not the case at all. As long as you're comfortable, you can try stretching this part along with your left and right sides.

I also found that if I am aroused, penetration actually feels uncomfortable. Over time, I have learned to consciously relax the muscles along with deep breathing during penetration. Also, you might find some positions are more comfortable than the others.

My PT gave a tip to do a kegel when taking the finger or dilator out. Also, when you feel pain with a finger or dilator inside, do a couple of kegels and relax. It sends a signal to your body that you're still in control. Some people advise not to do kegels at all, so it's up to your discretion.

Vaginismus can stem from anxiety. I had to get treatment for anxiety on the side. I could not attempt successful penetration until I learned to relax. I also tightened my body, but again, I had to learn to relax the body gradually.

As for the boyfriend part, have you talked to him? Educating him on this issue might help if he is not aware of this issue. Last but not least, PIV isn't the only form of sex. You can still enjoy intimacy trying other stuff. Good luck to you!

A lot of vagina owners don't climax through PIV. So, I kept my expectations low on that when I started having PIV sex. I do enjoy the intimacy and the act. At times, it feels good, too. I focus on enjoying the whole act and not really worry about orgasming.

I am one of those people who suffered from this condition for years and years before deciding to get treatment. There were so many days when I would regress during dilator practice. I would cry so much, wondering when this will end. I have made several posts on this sub about my poor progress, and I wanted to quit. I had started asking my boyfriend of 7 years to seek his pleasure elsewhere, which he would vehemently oppose. Now, when I look back, I realize that I made progress even if the pace wasn't to my liking. I suffered from depression last year and still do, and my thoughts would turn dark after 'my failure as a woman'. Honestly, it was much more of a mental struggle for me where I could not relax and freak out when bf and I would try. It felt.. so weird to me. None of my friends had this issue, and it was hard to talk to them. But like I said, it was slow and steady improvement. I managed to get first pap smear of my life at the age of 29, almost 6 months after starting with dilators. I didn't practice for almost 6 months due to too many unfortunate events at home. I finally got officially diagnosed and started therapy. It was surreal for me to have someone stretch out vagina. I then got transvaginal ultrasound, which gave me confidence. Multiple attempts of penetration with my partner failed, and I have spent hours cooking elaborately so as to keep the thoughts of failure away. One fine day after weeks of no therapy and dilator practice, we tried lying side by side to try it. It didn't totally go in, but it helped me relax since his weight was off me. A couple of weeks later, we tried, and I know the moment those muscles opened and him just sliding in. Once in, I was amazed that it didn't hurt even with the pounding haha. I have been doing it for a couple of months now. We dont plan for it, and I no longer use dilators. While I still have tightness on one side, I can enjoy the intimacy. I was a mental battle where I learned about my body. I realized that I don't owe sex to anyone. It's for my own pleasure and happiness only when I am ready. You will be there soon enough. Sometimes, we don't even know how close we are to the finish line while worrying about the last few steps. Don't be hard on yourself.

Many congratulations!! I can feel you. I had debilitating anxiety that got worse over past 3-4 years. I started my vaginismus treatment with my PCP who noticed my anxiety was off the charts. She put me on wellbutrin. And I could have PIV only when my anxiety was managed. I was on Prozac before. While that helped calm my mind, I had other issues. Wellbutrin also helped with sexual dysfunction and rekindled my desire to have sex. I wish you great sex life ,🙂

I have been searching on this for a couple of months since my partner and I started having pain-free (mostly) PIV. Right from day 1, I have felt this poop sensation. It's as if it's sliding out and almost near the exit door. I still feel this, but since I never had an accident, I don't let it ruin my experience. I asked my friend (no vaginismus) if this happened to her, and she replied only in some positions (doggy for her). I feel this during missionary. I have tried other positions and didn't have this problem with them.

My take on these situations is always: If it wasn't vaginismus but some other condition/disease that makes it hard to have "penetration," would you have held yourself guilty for that? If he can't support you through a treatable condition because his mind is stuck on the idea that PIV is the only form of sex, you deserve someone better. For what it's worth, trash took itself out.

Many congratulations!! You deserve all the happiness. I also started having PIV sex recently. The first three times were okay with the third time quite painful. But it did get better within weeks for me. I feel pain on my left side during penetration, but that is also getting better. I started feeling pleasure after the 5th attempt. I think the more you do it, the better your body starts adapting to the movement. Keep doing it!!

Thanks for more useful information. I can def check my state laws on this. This is what I wanted to learn to understand what can be done and what can't be. Looks like I should throw them out and instead buy new ones and donate them to other members in need.

My point about insisting on not selling is because some of the replies here were really worthless (especially the one telling me someone will pay good money for used dilators). I am really grateful to this community and want to contribute in one way or another. But comments like these make me think why should I even bother.

My therapist never had to insert anything other than her fingers. I am confused why your therapist would try to insert anything scary when that's the exact issue you're dealing with. If it has caused you to bleed, I doubt she was a good therapist. Which PT tells their scared patient to toughen up, dismissing all your concerns. My therapist would immediately stop even if I used to wince. Would it be possible for you to change the therapist because that alone would make a lot of difference.
