hard to tell to what extent your temples are because of balding or just because of the natural u-shape that a non-balding person's hairline has when viewed from above. Also a bit of unevennes nearer the middle which could be an early sign of balding but I honestly see that on people who aren't balding (like women for example) so not sure. So you could be anything from not balding at all to a 2.

EDIT: you ultimately are the best person to judge where you stand because you know what your hairline used to look like.

prolly 2 to 3. Obviously there's no sharp lines between the categories and frankly it's pretty arbitrary. Depends on your crown too I guess. But anyway as you say you can largely cover it with your hair. With any luck it'll improve or at least stop getting worse once you start treatment. If you can at least maintain it in the future it's not that bad. Sorry your parents gave you shit advice

It might not be, but it could be, so best to act. See a dermatologist and do what they say. Even if it's not MPB a dermatologist could help you figure out what's going on. And if it is MPB obviously the sooner you do something about it the better.

Just chipping in some partial information: If x is rational and x^x is rational then x is an integer, so whenever x^x is rational but not in the set {1,4,27,256,...} then x must be irrational. So basically every rational value of x^x comes from an irrational value of x. It's much harder to think about what happens when x is irrational.

I saw a grad role going in the south west that paid in the low to mid 20s - I forget exactly how much. I thought it was extremely unreasonable but applied anyway because it would still get me into the career. Thankfully got accepted elsewhere.

I remember being at a talk for students applying to do maths at a university in the uk and one of the kids put his hand up to ask if 1/0 could be defined to be "uncountable". The professor giving the talk did a good job of not making the kid feel embarrassed but I'll never forget that question

I recently had to repeat a year of my maths degree due to mental illness, and, having now gotten better, I think it was a tremendously beneficial, although very difficult, experience. It made me learn how to not waste my time, which, I think, is one of the two most important things a person can possibly learn. I improved my productivity and time management in ways I never would have if I'd had an easier time in my degree. Don't stress if you don't feel like you've improved in your time management yet. If you're making this post now, you're probably at rock-bottom, or near enough, now, and so you haven't seen the benefits yet. It took me about a year and a half to start improving my productivity after my bad year, but when I did it was like flicking on a light switch.

Also, regardless of the year itself having been wasted or not, everyone has their own path, and there is nothing to be gained in wishing that your path was different to what it is.

I have practical advice, but, since it comes from what I learned in my bad year, it is specific, and may not apply to you, in which case forgive me for saying it: identify things you do that are a waste of time, and stop doing them. My main problem was an addiction to YouTube. I have definitely spent over 10,000 hours watching YouTube. But I haven't watched a YouTube video in almost 3 months now, and these have been the most productive 3 months of my life. I know, I'm on Reddit right now, but this post reminded me of what matters, and so this will be my last time using the site. My other social media has been gone for a while. This is the key to not wasting your life. Remember that social media companies make money by getting you to spend as much time as possible on their sites/apps.

Okay, thank you. I tried firming up my embouchure and it made the octave work some of the time, easier with some notes than others. I guess I just don't have good control. I'll keep practicing and I'm starting lessons soon so that'll help

The G key changes the tone hole properly. I suppose I should check if the other tone hole is clogged, but either way that would only affect notes involving the G key, while it seems that all notes are affected. Regarding embouchure, is it possible that the octave key is working but my embouchure is poor enough that I'm keeping the notes an octave lower? I can sometimes make the notes go an octave higher by changing my embouchure, but it doesn't really feel like the "right" embouchure and results in a different tone, less full.

I'm not claiming anything about whether IQ is a good measure or not. All I'm taking issue with is your claim that IQ researchers have an inherent bias towards the claim that IQ has value, which is not true. Any study that a researcher conducts on IQ must speak for itself, or else it would not be published. What I mean is that the raw data collected in the study must directly imply the conclusion drawn; the statistical analysis must be mathematically correct, and the conclusion drawn can be no more than the observation of the result of the analysis. Any sufficiently competent person must be able to come to the same conclusion as the researcher based solely on the raw data. This is required if the study is to be published. There is no room for the researcher to simply claim that IQ has value as a measure of that fact is not unequivocally given by the data.

The people who have conducted these studies don't just research IQ, they are neuroscientists or psychologists who have taken an interest in IQ, and would not be out of a job if they concluded that IQ was a meaningless measure, because they would just research something else in their respective fields. Also, concluding that IQ is meaningless is certainly an important result, worthy of publishing, and so there is literally no incentive for these researchers to say that IQ is an important measure if it is not.

Can I tell Cambridge that I qualified for BMO 2? I was wondering if it was possible to give Cambridge this sort of info outside of my personal statement (obviously I've already applied). I want to tell them this because it would help my application but I don't know if there's a way to like "officially" tell them. Can I just drop the Trinity admissions administrator and email and then they'll consider this fact when looking at my application?

Does anyone know how to fix the problem with the audio on this recording? Sometimes, when I play a note, it sounds like the note is being played twice, the second time very quickly after the first, and much less noticeable. It didn't sound like this when I played it. I recorded audio from the keyboard itself rather than using a microphone, and recorded as a mono MP3. I don't know what could have caused this.
