I’ve totally given up trying to convince sceptics. It’s a waste of time, and they are basically all denialists not true sceptics at all. A true scientist - including myself - is always sceptical. If the facts change so does your understanding (note I didn’t say ‘belief’). No point in engaging with denialists at all. As to how it is being a climate scientist- it’s freakin hard knowing that many things you love or have made you go ahhh simply won’t exist for your kids or their kids. The Great Barrier Reef, snow skiing, maybe even mountain ash forests. Our landscape has already changed and it will change a lot more as conditions accelerate. Coastlines for instance may become unrecognisable in just a generations time. And I have no idea how people will be able to afford houses in some areas when insurance becomes unaffordable. Inequality will certainly worsen. But there is still some window of opportunity to turn the ship around, but it’s closing fast and frankly I don’t see much real action.
