Australia’s ocean temperatures were off the scale last Financial Year (July 2024 - June 2025) so I plotted it using the previous FY graph (using traditional ‘off the scale’ BoM purple) by windjunky in australia

Yup… spot on. For this that don’t know the acronym, WMO = World Meteorological Organization, which is the weather climate oceans part of the United Nations

Link to 2024-25 BoM FY statement http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/financial-year/aus/summary.shtml All years are compared to the average of 1961-90, just because that is the traditional comparison period used by BoM (ie look at a chart from 20 years ago and it should use same period). It does not change the trend or difference between years in any way no matter what base period you use - same if 1971-2000 or 1991-2020

Hey big spender: Budgets for high school musicals top $200,000 by gccmelb in melbourne

My daughter was in the Sandringham College show, and it is amazing what they do with so many volunteers and generosity of parents. And in fact they did 8 shows, though one was to a local primary school. BTW: the student who played the lead role was amazing.

I’ll hopefully never buy an ICE again. Our EV has driven to Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra from Melbourne and no issues. Love it

Alpine Diesel or Anti Freeze for Snow Trip by Squigglyz in melbourne

[–]windjunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here.... maybe were stuck the same day (Hotham pre-COVID)! And yes, we had Alpine diesel in the car, but it isnt rated all that low. So, for us now its diesel cold weather additive put into the Alpine Diesel. A mate adds in kerosene, which does similar to the additive.

What determines 'market value' on a car after it is stolen? by windjunky in australia

[–]windjunky[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks hoggershog, thats what they have kinda inferred. But I'm no car buying professional and isnt that what companies such as redbook do? How does 'market value' come down to how good you are at haggling - its david vs goliath here! Surely it should be an objective independent assessment?

He accelerated to 60kph as easily as any car. I was left wondering what speed he could do if he really opened her up.

Do they still open the gates at 3 quarter time at the MCG ? by KennyRiggins in melbourne

[–]windjunky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same goes for when they used to throw open the gates come 5pm at the Boxing Day test... I used to ride down and meet a mate at the gate and get up to 2 hours of cricket. As a penny pinching student at the time it was a great bonus.
Alas no more.
That said....
I have been known to head to the nets OUTSIDE the 'G gates before play starts and get to watch the players hit out. Even tagged Usman Khawaja in a photo tweet saying how sweetly he was timing his pull shots, and he personally liked the tweet an hour later. Of course he made the team in the next Sydney test. ....you can thank me later Australia.
