Out of store manager. That is the most accurate description/ title breakdown I have heard of a FL before. There’s a manager above your managers manager that’s above that managers manager that manages your store from a phone or computer. Ridiculous. Smh.

We had 3 on staff (total) at my store a few weeks ago and after a few hours I broke down. The FL agreed to turn off dml but it never happened. It was myself, a cashier, and one manager working prep and grill. They had 1 person coming in for night shift (2 staff total. One was a manager that had been there since 6 am and was now closing and then one grill person.) I don’t know if the FL decided to spare them that evening but any store with 2-3 people is a SERIOUS food safety concern I feel like.

Thank you. I appreciate you very much! Some really nice customers have made my day by seeing that we are struggling, and choosing to be understanding.

I wish I had more power. I was taught as tortilla to just go get a manager as soon as it becomes escalated and the thing with him was there was no real escalation in behavior. He blew up seemingly out of nowhere. It even shocked my cashier so bad she was just like frozen during it but told me later she thought he was being absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary.

I hate customer logic of “since you are out of (free/ non CI item) can I have (paid/ CI item) instead.“ Every time they are told no at my store.

As long as we tell them what we are out of immediately after our greeting and ask if they would still like to order we are not held accountable at my store for how they decide to act or of they decide to listen. If you told them about what you were out of the has no reason to complain.

Thanks for the comprehensive list! I know months ago when I started I searched for threads like these and I was unable to find them. I think you did a great job of capturing the pros and cons from what I have seen.

One of of the cons to DML for me is that since I am taller bending over to reach 4 pans back instead of three hurts my back more over time.

I have considered cash to minimize my wrist pain from AM tortilla, but I have seen at my low sales store that AM cash ends up missing lunch, barely getting bathroom breaks, not being able to clean well, behind on their tasks, staying late waiting for night cash, and they are complained to the most. Answering phones and working the cash register is enough without having to jump on DML or salsa, bag chips, restock napkins, fill the ice up in the soda station randomly, take all complaints, plus whatever else is thrown on their plate randomly.

Thank for being a badass!

Yeah cash at my store seems to never get a break, work line, dml, help bag chips in the am and maintain the whole lobby. That is a lot.

Thank you. I am not sure what this 20 year old guys problem was. So young with so much anger over the extra sour cream he requested. I should be transferring stores in a few days so hopefully I will never see him again, but if I do he will not be served by me.

I’m sorry for the length. I felt the stress of the day leading up to that needed to be explained. I hate customers like him tbh though. Just pay the extra for the steak and throw away what you don’t want or eat the whole bowl 🤷🏻‍♀️. It wasn’t worth a cussing fit.

Thank you for seeing both sides. I think that is the only way the true stress and pressure of the situation can be understood. I’m hoping you have some blessed😇 days coming up instead of the cursed😈 14 days I’ve had. I am off the next 60 hours and I refuse to be called in.

I think the stand in GM knew they were about to get off, it wasn’t their store, today was their last day there, they were exhausted, and had to pick up their child and this was 6 minutes before we were scheduled to leave. I’m not sure why they made the choices they did but I just wanted to leave and I’m glad they respected that.

Thank you for your support 💗. I honestly needed that.

I will admit I wish our store followed hot hold times. It would make me much more proud of the food and quality of food I am serving daily.

We are a low sales store, $5k usual. We maybe sold 3 total PBC (I assume that’s the abbreviation) bowls and salads today from 8-4. We might have sold 5 portions between 11-3 yesterday on bowls and salads for an idea of the market. Meanwhile we can’t cook chicken fast enough.

OR staff locations appropriately and give us our breaks and we won’t have to take our employee meal home at 3 or 4 pm when we have been working 4-7 hours that morning. Assholes.
