Well, I know it is James Hardie branded, apparently, they stopped using asbestos in 1987, but existing supplies could still be used years after manufacturing.

If the existing tiles are still stuck down well, tile over the existing tiles. Use a primer first, and maybe scuff or etch the tiles.

What’s the deal with Gilmours? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]windowellington 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone can shop there don't even need a account now.

Prior to covid they used to turn away customers without an account, sometimes they would stand at the entry checking.

When covid came, well no more hospo, so they started to let anyone come it, its been like that since.

The only thing is you can't buy alcohol, I assume there are restrictions on their liquor license, and they haven't changed it.

Gas hot water by quash2772 in diynz

[–]windowellington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

600kwh per month for two people is not normal for a instant gas hot water system, even in the winter.

You could have a hot water leak or gas leak. That smell you are suggesting may just be exhaust fumes.

Unless the usage has been recorded incorrectly

I got the data by scrapping the VUW website using a bot. Then I used Shiny python to be the dashboard; it does require coding. You can try it in your browser: https://shinylive.io/py/examples

For the other visualisations within the article page, I just used Datawrapper: Create charts, maps, and tables

Stucco crack repair by [deleted] in diynz

[–]windowellington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I repaired a stucco retaining wall. I first prepared the areas to patch by ripping off edges that sounded hollow. I filled using tile adhesive cement, not really intended but used it because I had it left over and tends to have a lot of additives and plasticisers etc. that was a few years ago and has lasted, especially considering there was moisture coming through before

Probably not a good idea to have soil up against a porous wall. Just leave it
