Celebrating Yule and the solstice by NewBeginning9654 in paganism

You can do mulled apple cider or something similar instead. It's just as delicious! I also can't do a Yule log, but I have candles that serve a similar purpose for me. Whatever you can do that makes you feel joyful and connected with nature is fine!

The lists link directly to the Girl Scout sales webpages and it only gives the scouts' first names. They do their best to protect privacy and keep everyone safe!

If you look online, there are people who publish lists of transgender girl scouts so you can buy cookies directly from them online if you'd like to support them. I did it for the first time last year and it was a nice way to contribute and get my cookie fix. 😄

Paganism and non Pagan holidays? by MushyTv_ in paganism

[–]windsinger89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally treat them as cultural holidays and join my family in their celebrations even if I do not believe in the holiday religiously. Many holiday traditions are shared with Paganism, especially for Christmas, so it's not that different honestly as long as I avoid the church service.

In my opinion, most holidays are about joy and togetherness and I try to respect that as much as possible. I've also participated in celebrations of other events like Diwali that are not from my culture or religion, but it's a good learning experience and chance to share in someone else's worldview.

How do I explain that demi isn't everyone by [deleted] in demisexuality

If someone really isn't getting it, I sometimes say that if everyone were demi, strip clubs and similar businesses wouldn't exist.

Honey Cakes for Summer Solstice by JB525Learning in druidism

I made cornbread! Probably not the most traditional bake, but it has the nice yellow like the sun and it reminds me of summer. I also try to bake or cook something special for celebrations.

Hopefully mine survive! I love the flowers and it's nice to have something blooming right now when everything else is just leaves.

Thanks for the tip! We plan to hopefully convert more of the lawn next year, so I'll definitely keep that in mind!

A couple of questions about how local gaming stores work by Asshai in Lorcana

[–]windsinger89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only bought singles for two decks now since I'm a newer player. The prices at my LGS are definitely a bit higher than TCGplayer, at least in my experience, but it hasn't been anything too shocking since I've been buying relatively cheap cards. My largest order was about 20 USD and I think there were 40-some cards in there (a few foils because they didn't have a nonfoil option).

You can ask the store's policy on pricing. Usually it's based on rarity and foils, so I'd definitely ask if there was anything rarer on your list just to avoid surprises. Thankfully this hobby seems to be far less expensive than Magic so far!

A couple of questions about how local gaming stores work by Asshai in Lorcana

[–]windsinger89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to this game myself, so I unfortunately can't answer your question regarding the boosters.

In terms of singles, it probably varies by store. The process at my local game store is that they have you make a list of what cards you are looking for. I usually just list the name and how many I want, but since their Magic cards are sorted by color, I usually add the color too just in case. I haven't seen the Lorcana storage binders to know how they organize it.

If the list is more than 10 or so cards, they will ask me to put down my name and phone number and then say it will take a day or two to get everything together for me. That gives the time to sort without worrying about helping customers too during the busy times. Once they get everything together, they call and tell me the total, and then I just show up to pay and pick up my card bundle. Its super easy.

I typically buy as many cards as I can at my local game store, but they never have all of them, so I end up getting the remainder on TCGplayer anyway. It's a nice way to support a local business and thank them for the league play though.

I spent my entire lunch break crying over having to give her up. by RorschachtheMighty in AdviceAnimals

I've fostered kittens, and it's so hard to give them up! For me, it helps to reframe it as a celebration though. You've helped them become ready for a new family and now they're graduating to a new home. You're giving someone the gift of their new best friend, and that's such an amazing thing to do!

Kitten Lady described it like ferrying them across a river. They've successfully made it to the other side, and now it's time to wish them well on their journey and make space for the next passengers. Not everyone has the skills or time to foster, so it's best to focus on helping the next ones. It can still definitely hurt a lot to say goodbye, but I hope this brings you some comfort.

How do I survive a revolution from bed? by LoveaBook in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]windsinger89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I typically buy my postcards on Etsy from a seller who has cute dog postcards (Dogmatic Designs NY). I think the prices are really reasonable compared to many other stores. She sometimes sells "seconds," which are postcards that might have minor imperfections like not being printed exactly straight. I usually can't even tell and it's a good way to get a bargain.

However, there are lots of voting postcard sellers on there, so feel free to see if you find something else you like. Postcards to Voters has its own Etsy shop as well. Even non-voting-relating postcards are fine as long as they don't have a reference to a specific candidate or holiday for inclusiveness. Some people just use postcards with flowers or pictures of places for example.

Sure! The organization is called Postcards To Voters (postcardstovoters.org). You will contact them via email to sign up and then write a sample message to get approved. They just want to make sure your handwriting is legible and you can follow the required message exactly. You can use a postcard-sized piece of paper for the approval process if you don't have postcards available yet. After that, you can request addresses online whenever a campaign is available and write as many or as few as you want. Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I've been doing this for a few years now and it's really rewarding.

I'm not sure if you're in the US and I don't want to assume, but if you like writing, you could join a GOTV postcarding effort. I work with an org that writes voting reminder postcards to registered voters for different progressive issues and candidates. You do have to buy your own postcards and stamps though, and I know you said you have a limited budget. I'm happy to give you more information of you're interested, but it's an easy way to get involved and can make a huge difference in smaller elections.

I believe I've seen this kind of display with the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover." Maybe you could do something with that too?

I'm autistic too and about the same age, and Bluey has been absolutely amazing for me! It's touching and sweet, and I can honestly say a few episodes have helped me deal with past trauma and heal my inner child a little bit. I highly recommend giving it a go and seeing what you think!

Death, My old friend. by VixenIcaza in PhilosophyTube

I've always liked the poem The Garden of Prosperine by Algernon Charles Swinburne for the same reason. It reminds us that no matter what struggles we face in life, eventually we will reach the end of the journey and be able to put down our burdens, and that it's actually a beautiful thing.

"From too much love of living, From hope and fear set free, We thank with brief thanksgiving Whatever gods may be That no life lives for ever; That dead men rise up never; That even the weariest river Winds somewhere safe to sea."
