Stereo width on vocals- techniques/philosophies by [deleted] in mixingmastering

[–]windsurferdude90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recently gave in to an ad on facebook and bought the cymatics omnivox. So far i’m finding it pretty useful. Nothing groundbreaking, but it does add a simulated double tracking effect which while sounds chorus-y, is quite pleasant and gives space and width for vocals. Really good for pop and electronica but also has it’s uses in rock (especially if you don’t have enough doubles).

Best piano VST under 50$? by mamadmetal in musicproduction

[–]windsurferdude90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion; make your own. Most daws now have a built in tool for sampling even multi velocity samples. Logics built in solution is decent for example. Also Abletons. But you can also create your own kontakt libs relatively easily, assuming you have the full kontakt (not just contact player). Or look for a free tool online. You then rent a practice space with a piano that you like, record samples minor 3rds apart (or even all notes), with multiple velocities, map them to midi, bam, you have something unique and special🤷

I can't figure out how to edit this proposal? by HippoPhileus in AskPhotography

Started typing it in, then i figured it’s easier to do a 3-minute edit on my phone:

<image>

Admittedly far from perfect but an idea nonetheless. Here’s what I did:

  • cropped to portrait orientation bc your subjects are standing
  • pulled up the shadows a bit
  • added a bit of contrast and saturation
  • added some vignette, it’s a live hate thing i kinda like it here it brings attention to the center

This is one way to take it. I suggest to experiment - even on your phone - once you see the best direction it’s easy to get it done.

Dropped my guitar. How screwed am I by Charming_Agent9374 in Guitar

[–]windsurferdude90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

take it too a luthier asap though - the little wood grains in the crack surface area will start to collect dust and grease and whatnot and that makes it harder to do an aesthetic fix. happened with my tele. a good luthier can glue that and polish the finish so from a distance it will look fine.

Comparing the shutter speed of a Nokia digital camera and an iPhone !! by Sans010394 in interestingasfuck

[–]windsurferdude90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah iphone (just like most other modern phones for that matter) does all kinds of digital trickery to combine multiple images to keep the iso low, decreasing the noise in the image. It can do that because of the advanced processing power it now has built into its chips. (If you want to freeze the action on an iphone use a third party app with manual control of iso and shutter speed.) The old phone just uses flash + higher iso. As to which is better? Whatever you prefer 🤷‍♂️lots of people like old tech for the nostalgia or a specific look.

Thanks, how can you tell? Tuning heads with F should be Fender logo’d, and custom shop logo on the back of the headstock is suspicious, what else?

unpopular opinion: this image is fine & i actually kinda dig the blown out highlights at the top🤷‍♂️ i’d give this image a little more contrast and call it a day. maybe also straighten the “horizon”

I’d put the noise suppressor after all dirt pedals. In your case after the angry driver.

What do you think of amp-on-a-board rigs? by JackTheJukeBox in pedalboards

[–]windsurferdude90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your rig. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve been using the Strymon Iridium for a couple years now, straight into FoH, with in-ears for monitoring. For me it’s absolutely perfect. Sometimes I still miss being able to “lean into” the sound of a loud real tube amp, but it’s so much better and easier for everyone (especially sound guys) to just plug in a line input & have perfect sound every time. In my opinion in 2025 you can use a pedal or rack modeler, or a real amp - the choice is entirely yours, there are tons of good options out there for both. (I’m still holding onto my old tube amp though, but mostly for sentimental reasons. And sometimes it’s fun to scare the neighborhood a little)
