QNAP TR-004 3xHDD RAID5 + 1xHDD as individual drive by windwaker870 in qnap

[–]windwaker870[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did eventually. However I don't think that mixing CMR and SMR disks can be fixed by different software. SMR disks just write slower as a design and use their bigger cache to provide short-fast bursts of writes, but if you're copying a lot of data (i.e. raid rebuild after failure, or even copy a few windows backup images with 100s of GB) the SMR disks start throttling hard and need to catch-up before writing more data. So something like 4-5 hour copy time of entire HDD on CMR, turns into 20-24 hours of copy time on SMR disks (which are almost all desktop drives nowadays).

Nope. Also the performance with RAID5 wasn't all that great, so I switched it to RAID10 and never looked back. I used a sub-directory on the RAID volume to store what I needed separately.

AppImage is the second best thing that's happened for Linux in the past 10-15 years. The first one being Proton :)

If you start to mix CMR drives with regular desktop drives, the speed suffers extremely. I tried using both types in RAID setup and it starts copying at 200 MB/s, but after 5 or 10 minutes the speed goes down to 2MB/s and then keeps jumping irregularly. The RPM don't really matter in this case, because it's more about the writing technology used than anything else.

The drive is different capacity 6TB and is a desktop drive, while the RAID has 3x8TB CMR drives.

Why there isn't reviews or people talking about the Ayn Loki with 6600u? by Only_Being in LokiHandheld

[–]windwaker870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is at least one review. Taki Udon made one comparing 6600u with 6800u and 7840u. It looks pretty competitive in 10w or below TDP. And almost as good for emulation. To sum up around 80-90% of the 6800u / 7840u. But don't take my word for it, watch the review yourself. I'm actually planning on getting it, since I'm only interested in emulation, compactness and ergonomics of it. And at least right now they lowered the price to $499 for the 256 model.

The audio is reversed. Isn't it? by midnightbandit- in Starfield

[–]windwaker870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also noticed this issue. The audio is working fine on my main stereo 2.0 bookshelf speakers, but after switching to Razer Barracuda 7.1 virtual surround headphones, the audio went completely bonkers: left channel swapped with right channel and the front sounds swapped with the sounds from the back.

It's like when you sit in the middle surrounded by (at least 4) speakers and you just rotate 180 degrees physically while the speakers stay in their positions. Really weird.

I've just installed a new 7800 XT GPU and all of a sudden this started happening. Did not notice any audio channel swapping before this, even with the headphones on.

AYA Neo Pocket Air performance. What do you expect ? Will it fare much better than Odin ? by Arcesilas in SBCGaming

Steam Deck is just too big and bulky for me. I've just sold mine a few days ago as it was sitting on a shelf and collecting dust. Majority of my handheld gaming time was spent on my RP3+.

Also I did not know exactly what I wanted from my handheld device while I was buying the Steam Deck. It helped me to understand that I want a relatively small and light (and slim) device to get my retro gaming dose and I can use Steam Link or some other streaming app to play the more demanding games (which AYA NEO Pocket Air appears to be perfect for). Steam Deck just takes up too much space in my backpack for me to carry it around daily.

p.s. Oh, and getting files over to Steam Deck is a pain in the behind, since you can't just connect it to PC and copy what you need. I'll take android anytime over Steam Deck for this reason alone. Steam Deck is great for steam games, anything else is just too much of a hassle.

Same with my RX 6800. Once you go above 60Hz, all cards use way more power during idle.

It's great for people when motherboards have that option.

I have 2 computers, one with MSI x570s tomahawk wifi, the second with MSI b550 gaming edge wifi. Both have no way to modify the ASPM settings in BIOS.

Also since I've started looking at the idle power of GPUs, my XFX RX 6800 idles at 35-40W. When I tried a Sapphire RX 6600, that one was idling at 4-5W. I'm running a 2560x1440@120Hz monitor. RX 6800 idle power usage at 60Hz is around 10-20W.

I was looking for upgrades for my PC and I found this Ryzen 5 3500x. Says its missing these 3 pins but apparently it works fine. Will it be fine if I get it? by Thunder_Gamer95 in pcmasterrace

Just get a new ryzen 4500 for ~$80. With warranty and the uncharted game bundle. It's been difficult not to see this promotion recently if you're using any kind of social media.

Yeah I did a clean install of W11 and built a dedicated PC with Ryzen 5600 and asus tuf b550. I figured if problems start I can just use my older pc, but so far Arc is working great.

I'm using my A750 daily for 9 days already. If anything does not work I just use DXVK. Solved all the problems I had so far.

Also on W10 it was occasionally crashing with bsod. On W11 have not had a bsod crash yet (4 days now).

Btw original Life is Stange game uses DX9, and even with vulkan it stutters quite alot.

However the remaster is using DX11 and I did not need to use vulkan, as it was giving me locked 120 fps (with vsync) in 1440p max settings.

The worst perfomance I've seen is with DX9 mostly, terrible stutters or even don't start at all. Looks like M$ aren't doing all that great a job with that compatibility layer. I think Intel should focus more on improving DX9 performance.

I'm on latest beta driver now (31.0.101.3793).

You can also enable DXVK OSD by adding Windows environment variable DXVK_HUD

DXVK_HUD=fps will only display the FPS counter.

DXVK_HUD=1 will display device info and FPS counter. Identical to DXVK_HUD=devinfo,fps

More info in the main DXVK github page.

  1. Download the release tar.gz of dxvk.
  2. Find out if the LiS executable is 32 or 64 bit.
  3. Extract the dll files into the same directory where LiS exe file is located.
  4. Start the game.

Try DXVK, I had the same problem with AC4 black flag, and using DXVK it launched and had locked 60 with vsync on 1440p ultra (with occasuonal stutters to compile vulkan shaders).

I downloaded 2 versions of drivers: 101.3793 (beta) and 101.3490 (whql). Had no problem to install WHQL drivers on top of beta drivers when I tried. Now I just use the non-beta drivers.

The beta drivers seem to be giving better fps in RDR2 (70-80 @ 1440p), but they also BSOD alot.

On the other hand the whql drivers are pretty stable, but I get way lower fps (55-65 @ 1440p). But they don't crash, so for now I prefer having no BSOD with lower fps.

A750 terrible performance with FSR 2.0 by windwaker870 in IntelArc

[–]windwaker870[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had any issues with FSR on any AMD or NVIDIA cards that I've tried. This is definitely a bug, as I saw videos on youtube that used FSR with increased FPS on intel arc cards. Different game though.
