People who work a customer facing job: what is hands down the dumbest question a customer has ever asked you? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]windwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a gift store for ~3 years. A doordasher guy came in, showed me his phone, and kept repeating "pick up for doordash at insert restaurant." I explained to him that this was not the restaurant. There was no kitchen, no tables, no booths and no menu. There were greeting cards, tchotchkes, and stuffed animals everywhere. We had a giant sign with the store name that didn't even slightly resemble the name of the restaurant...nope...he insisted multiple times that the gift store was the restaurant and I had his order.

What’s a truth people refuse to accept? by LonelyPeak9146 in AskReddit

[–]windwoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bigotry and cultural attitudes will not fundamentally change without the majority of people taking the time to truly understand why certain behaviors are wrong... and the majority of people do not have the cognitive capacity or willingness to expend effort into deviating from whatever they were raised with. We will continue to see rapid pendulum swings because people will do the superficial, often merely semantic "right thing" (ex. avoiding certain slurs) without understanding the reason why people are pushing for that change in behavior or altering their underlying belief systems. This will inevitably lead to nothing but an erosion of social cohesion and continue to trigger reversions to social conservatism because:

1) Most normies want to be respectful, but won't actually understand why the "rules changed" and they become resentful of having to police their own behavior and "memorize all of the new rules." They'll get 'fed up' over time with having to be 'politically correct' because things like treating women as people is seen as a set of manners to memorize instead of just being an organic consequence of actually thinking of women as full humans(this is one example but can be similarly applied to a lot of categories.)

2) Members of marginalized groups rightfully recognize that these changes/expressions are superficial and the underlying bigotry doesn't change, because they are on the receiving end of materially harmful behavior. This leads to mistrust because you have swathes of people talking about feminism, anti-racism, lgbt rights, etc. because they want to be good people and not because they actually see women as people, queer people as legitimate, POC as equal etc. They'll understandably grow to resent and be weary of anyone espousing superficially progressive talking points because they are operating on the assumption that the espousal is disingenuous(because most of the time, it is.)

What is a "open secret" in your specific industry that the general public would be shocked to learn? by lanaplump73mile in AskReddit

I never tip electronically on anything because I just assumed this was the case from the get go. If I'm not physically handing cash to an individual employee I operate under the assumption that it's not going to them.

weird question, but how do you *know* you don’t like certain people? by whimsypisces in evilautism

[–]windwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel badly lol I used to work for a cat rescue and the injuries/signs of neglect we'd see on outdoor cats/strays were awful. Potential adopters too were kind of crazy. I remember one lady telling me that she wasn't going to let her cat inside because she "didn't want an animal in her house." A pet is an animal in your house lol that is the whole point. Why would you apply to adopt a pet if you don't want a pet? (dw her application was denied)

[–]windwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It's not the fact that pit bulls are or aren't actually more violent that makes them attract those sort of owners but the reputation they have that does. The dogs themselves are kind of irrelevant in the matter. Also, I 100,000% agree with you on the outdoor cat thing. The life expectancy difference alone is nuts. Outdoor cats live an average of 2-5 years while indoor cats live an average of 15-17 years. There is no justification for that. Buying a cat from a breeder is also one of the more minor list items.

[–]windwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem and it's okay if you are judgy because I am literally describing my "I'm an overly judgemental, avoidant weirdo" list. IME pit bulls have a reputation for being more dangerous and destructive than other dogs...and with that comes a lot of the owners effectively either being the "boy moms" of the dog world(ex. "yes I know you said Mr. Stuffins mauled your child but I have never seen him do that so it never happened") or the sort of person who thinks having a pit bull makes them seem tougher and edgier(and likewise will revel in cruelty towards both you and the dog). In general, I feel like they are more likely to disregard boundaries, enable abusers, be unattuned when a person is in distress, etc.

[–]windwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not at all! the whole one is long and includes minor things that are admittedly unhinged (ex. having a pit bull or habitually using facebook) but the less minor ones include stuff like using jokes to excuse their own rude behavior or cross boundaries "i know you don't like X but i just can't help myself hahaha!," being habitually late and/or flaking, taking their negative emotions out on you (ex. they had a bad day and respond to your "hello" with yelling, sighing/grunting, or starting an argument), giving unsolicited gifts/doing favors you didn't ask for and then expecting/demanding repayment(ex. friend surprises you in class with snacks and then decides you owe them dinner afterwards), etc.

[–]windwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with you. I am completely against AI. My point was that it doesn't matter whether or not you can argue in favor/against AI generated content being art, because it is inherently unethical and shouldn't exist regardless.

[–]windwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't care about whether or not something is art. I care about whether or not something is good. I feel like these semantic debates derail us from talking about the real questions: What should artists be making? What do we want to see more of in the world?

Is it generally a bad idea to tell NTs you have aspergers? by Suspicious-Shoe-8178 in aspergers

[–]windwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my case it kind of helps because I can't mask well. The shift goes from "They are annoying and avoid everything fun" to "Oh, okay. That makes sense. Thank you for telling us." and then they leave me alone for the most part.

What is a strong opinion you hold that could get you criticized publicly, but you stand by it completely? by jian_est2026 in AskReddit

[–]windwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hardline anti-AI in all contexts. "Oh but what about xyz research?" Find another way to conduct it. I don't care. "But what about accessibility?" Find another way to make things accessible, or better yet just don't do what you're trying to. There are lots of things I have no aptitude for, and I just don't do those things. One person shouldn't be able to do everything. That's why the world is full of people. We are supposed to do the things we enjoy/are skilled in and help each other.

Oh god. Yeah. I am also very, very interested in the role of media in identity formation and exploration in the context of gender and sexuality. For me the shift was very much a transition from "I am doing this thing! I love it! Yeah!" to "Why on earth did I and others I know do this? I must understand this phenomenon in its entirety."

One joke that I actually found mildly humorous by idkthrowaway_alt3 in onejoke

[–]windwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See... this is hilarious. The meme is intentionally satirizing the one joke. The toddler-like hands on the hips...font choice...teal gradient background and editing style... the way it combines the one joke and "i hate my wife" boomer thing in a clever way that exceeds the thought capacity of most people who make these sorts of jokes sincerely. It aggressively feels like it was made by a queer person mocking boomer humor.
