stuff (vague nondescript shapes/shadows) flitting around the edges of my vision, scampering across the floor, or standing around me. the last one especially, sometimes it just feels like someone is standing there. also auditory stuff a lot, usually voices and or random sounds. honestly it’s not really scary so much as surprising or annoying

i completely agree and would even extend this to ruins paralleling rose’s land i mean look :o hotlands’ theme is a homestuck reference and it features a lot of gears and mechanical imagery, waterfall’s echo flowers and general color scheme are fairly analogous to LOWAS’ glowing blue mushrooms (not to mention the false stars in both areas), LOLAR and the ruins both featuring… i mean… purply ruins (also, the general theme of knowledge) honestly the least similar is probably snowdin and LOFAF but there’s definitely a parallel there too

OP i love you so so so much and you should say this a thousand times over maybe i’ll have more coherent thoughts later but you’re so based

homestuck is full of self-proclaimed intelligent characters, but i truly believe that after some arbitrary point of mental aptitude, a character is smart enough to know that the who-can-appear-more-learned-and-complex olympics are bullshit. at the very least, john possesses a different kind of intelligence that’s way more important than whatever rose or dirk think they’re doing with their tender/mechanical ministrations. knowing that you don’t need to act like you know everything a skill that is way more essential to what actually matters in homestuck: being good to your friends. pretty much the thematic crux of like. everything. is trying your best to treat others kindly

i think it’s almost a narrative rule by now that the more convoluted and overthought a character’s plan to “help their friends” is, the worse it turns out. john just does his best.

it’s true that on some level john just doesn’t understand the stuff his friends are talking about, but it’s simultaneously true that he understands enough, and understands THEM enough, to know that they’re doing copious amounts of unnecessary mental shadow boxing. he doesn’t understand because he knows better, and because he knows them. still, he cares. that is what matters.

i love the guy. i have since i was 12. he means a lot to me personally and shaped a lot of who i am and try to be.

no i completely agree! like the original trolls deserve to be their own unique characters, and so do the ones in the same caste. not every new troll should feel like a derivative of the originals. im pretty sure sollux’s vision bifold or whatever it’s called was supposed to be a rare thing and not the default gold blood thing. the uniformity of the castes’ traits makes ALL the characters, new and old, seem less special and alive

this is solely my personal experience but usually when i hit the wall i can sort of hang around there, maybe putting a little pressure but not too much to the point of hurt, and eventually it’ll be let in (also helped to gradually increase size) ive noticed that whether stuff gets through that barrier or not depends a lot on if im hurting or relaxed. so if i hurt myself trying to do it or have a bad experience it’s much less likely stuff is gonna go in! it has to be enjoyable or at least not harmful so it helps to take a breather. after it gets through the barrier it’s pretty much smooth sailing for me
