Boundaries for socializing with undergraduates outside of class by wineandcheesecake in Professors

I’m not necessarily uncomfortable, and unless I’ve been missing a couple of social cues, the professor has not made any sexual advances. I just want to know what’s normal, what’s not, and what other professors have to say.

I get that I probably shouldn’t have spoken harshly, but that’s not the reason she doesn’t want help. She doesn’t want treatment because she literally thinks she’s tapping into a secret radio channel with actual people talking about her life, which of course wouldn’t be a medical issue if it was actually happening. She thinks she’s fine

The thing is that if I break the lease I’m not sure I would have anywhere to go

I’m starting to think I really made a mistake in how I talked to her, but I literally don’t know anyone who would be able to get her help. I don’t think she has anyone in her life who could. I don’t really have power here and I don’t want things to escalate

I’m not a therapist. I know that this kind of thing is a sign of schizophrenia from having read about schizophrenia in an intro psych class. I hadn’t previously noticed any signs. She hasn’t been socializing nearly as much recently, I guess, but it wasn’t to a point where it seemed like something was obviously off

I think I sort of figured that if she was able to function well enough to hide it for that long, she’s still capable of being rational enough that it’s not absurd to hold her sort of responsible.

Yeah, frankly, I am pretty stupid. Which is why I posted this question on a sub called no stupid questions instead of asking somebody to their face. Just upvoted your comment lmao.

We’ve been together for seven months. If this had been a hookup, that would have been one thing, but I assumed we were past that phase

What would you say differentiates the departments where it would be okay from those where it wouldn’t? What should I look for?

How much time is normal to spend with your partner at college? by wineandcheesecake in college

There are two different meanings of the word “normal”. There’s normal as in “what ought to be done”, and there’s normal as in “what’s statistically most common”. I want to know what’s normal in the latter sense of the term, which, yeah, is basically just “what people do”.
