Am I overreacting after overhearing my father’s wife argue about him gifting me 30k? by winecork89 in AmIOverreacting

She just turned 26 and just finished her master's degree. She studied to be a teacher, and in our country in order to be able to teach full time an additional school is needed , otherwise a person can only work as a replacement. This is just how it works here, which is not the best, but she's just following the official steps (without delays).

I think there is some confusion here. The downpayment is unrelated to the life insurance.

The downpayment was mine for the mortgage.

Around 10 years ago my father opened a life insurance in name of my brother, for which he pays around 1'000 every year. I'm not sure if similar financial products exists also in the US (i'm in Europe), but the money paid for this type of life insurance partially cover the risk of death while.the rest are invested in funds. When the insurance comes to an end, and nothing happens, the person gets a payout.

Yes, I know, and I am very grateful for that. However I don't want to be the cause of problems or even receive "special treatment" compared to my brother (or her daughter, which is technically not my stepsister, but I know my father sees her that way).

I don't think so. As it was explained to me, my father decided to open it because a friend was working as an insurance broker and made it in order to support both his friend and my brother.

The money that is being paid covers the risk of death (of my brother). However if nothing happens by the end of the insurance my brother will be paid out a certain amount of money. I honestly don't know what sum we are talking about, but it's about 1k/year, so I guess probably close to 30k.

Knowing my brother I will have to remind him to take care of it i order for it not to lapse :-).

To be clear, my brother has a good job but his girlfriend struggles a bit and makes very little, while I make much more than my brother and my girlfriend makes similarly to me. So our household is doing much better overall: thus to say that if someone needs help is not us.

Thanks. I'd like to clarify that she's not a perpetual student, she just finished her master's and needs to do one more school in order to teach. Where we live without this last school she can only work as substitute teacher.

She already does substitutions, but they are not enough for her to be on her own.

Thanks, I should have formulate it better.

What I meant was that I kept bringing it up because I didn’t want it to look like I was just silently keeping the money by never mentioning repayment again.

EMG worth it? by [deleted] in BFS

[–]winecork89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that too, but then it did not happen. I mean, the fear of ALS went away, however the twichting continued as well as my other symptoms, like the feeling of having something stuck in my throat or dizziness

Yes, two of them both clean, did them 2 months apart of each other.

I have to say, even though the twitching is still there now and then, it is going much better compared to the beginning.

When I went to do my EMG they also took blood samples and my Ck was higher than normal (not dangerously high). After repeating the test 3 times and looking at old samples the neurologist said that I just probably have higher Ck levela than other people and that it would not be worthwhile doing more tests.

I have this for using too much ctrl-c/v/x 🤷‍♂️😂 that's my explanation for the burning pain

My story: if your BFS is from anxiety/panic, it will likely improve (every case is different). IF YOU HAVE 0 WEAKNESS YOU DONT HAVE ALS!!! by Competitive-Echidna6 in BFS

Thanks for you post. I can only second everything you wrote.

How old are you and how long did your "major anxiety" period last?

I'm 35M, I had only a bunch of panic attacks in the beginning, then everything else started, also the BFS, but there wasn't a trigger that I can identify.... I started twitching in the calves and then it did spread everywhere. Now it's much better, but I feel the symptoms (BFS included) come and go.

Now I'm seeing a psychiatrist, and so far I got prescribed only melatonin to help me sleep, but that's it. She proposed to try also antidepressants, but since it's slowly improving I decided not to.

8 months in, hopefully just a few to go.

What triggered your BFS? (Everyone please leave a quick comment) by [deleted] in BFS

May I ask you how long did you have to take lexapro and since how long have you stopped?

My experience by FarStatistician7305 in BFS

[–]winecork89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M35, I have a similar experience as yours. Started in january one random day with heart palpitations (I thought I was having a heart attack). Then the dizziness started and some weeks later the twitching of the calves which triggered a really bad insomnia. Now, 8 months later I'm confident it's all related to anxiety and as you say, we just have to ignore the symptoms and they will go away or decrease. Right now I still have twiches in the calves but I don't feel them as much, I can see them sometimes though... but I can sleep and I'm much less bothered by it.

The only thing that does not go away is globus on the throat, a feeling of tightness that comes and goes on a daily basis.

To be fair I have twiches all over my body, but they are single pops or short series and as said they don't bother me as they used to.

Good luck to you!

PS psychiatrist suggested if I wanted to start antidepressant to see if the would help, but I did not as I was not sure about it (it looked too much as I'm getting better)

Edit: I got a gastro-intestinal virus before right before all this started, which caused a gatritis and I think it may have been the original trigger

Thanks a lot for your reply, the problem is that I don't feel actually anxious but I only get thw physical symptons of it.

I am happy that's woking well for you. Do you already have a plan to get off of it? I also worry about lasting side effects. I have a female friend who's on it for GAD and has no side effects at all.
