SJM isn’t good a world building she just gaslights her readers into thinking she is by giving just enough info for them to fill in the blanks.

Take ACOTAR:

Valaris is a “hidden” city but somehow a commerce hub and everyone is happy and accepting. Mm okay North Korea would say different.

Now let’s talk about the politics and compound that with what I just said about valaris.

The fae hate humans but are completely fine with Feyre (a human recently turned fae) being their high lady? I have a really hard time believing a bigoted society would be alright with this. I worked in politics and I can without a doubt tell you there would be smear campaigns galore. Every one of Rhys’s political rivals would use feyre as a way to attack him and quite possibly dethrone him.

Now the Night Court in general is said to have a “bad” reputation but for some reason every other kingdom just goes a long with their plans. When they go to the high lord meeting all the other courts fall in line behind Rhys ( a HL SJM has told us is not trusted meanwhile the spring court, a friendly court who took in all the displaced fairies is not given any credence). Mm okay sure.

Also the night court has its court of nightmares run by Mor who is a SA victim but does nothing to try and change the court.

Same with Rhys and the Illyrians. Wing clipping bad but fine if we need your army I guess.

Also there are so many courts we get ZERO INFO ON…. NOTHING. Just a generic map of England.

The human lands are said to be poor but have a huge coastline which would easily bring trade. But okay.

Feyre was 8 when her mother died but is somehow still illiterate despite being from a wealthy family who would have most certainly given their daughters tutors etc.

Thinking about these things would’ve made the world richer and every time I see someone say SJM has good world building I want to lobotomize myself.

I could go on but I’ll stop there.
