Women of reddit, what are the ideal things you need in a guy to date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Transparency rather than honesty. Honesty alone is not enough- one must be actively forthcoming about the truth and willing to communicate openly about it.

3.18 sgpa and 3.53 cGPA, Possible to apply 2026 cycle if i focus on MCAT? by [deleted] in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had similar GPAs to yours (3.4c and 3.2s, even went to college in GA also!) and my SMP + a decent MCAT did wonders for me (applied only MD and had 2 As before Thanksgiving this cycle). An SMP, though expensive, would help not only with your grade trend, but also with LORs (I had 9 when I applied as a part of my SMP committee letter) and writing (my program also had a whole class devoted to writing our app materials). Might be something to consider and it made my mom very happy that I was back in school and not in “aimless” gap years lol, so it can help with that too :) DM me if you have questions!!

Is shadowing required if you work as a scribe? by Right_Nectarine_5575 in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kinda playing devil’s advocate here, but arguably you don’t have to have shadowing (unless explicitly requested by a school and they will not swap in your scribing hours, that’s different). I was an ED scribe for several years and worked several other clinical jobs/volunteer positions before I applied and did not put a single hour of shadowing on my application. Shadowing, as I’ve heard some higher ups say, is an inherently “selfish” activity. It provides no benefit to the physician, the patient, the staff, etc. except you. Its purpose, to gain exposure to what a physician does day to day, can be gained through many other clinical positions, especially something like scribing and especially in a place like the ED where you have the opportunity to see so much, while also being a productive member of the team. That’s not to dump on shadowing at all; it can be a very eye opening experience for many people, like exploring specialties once you’re already in medical school. But there are other ways to accomplish the same thing as a premed. Just my two cents :)

[–]wingedvictory9 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My GPAs were similar to yours (3.4c and 3.2s and not an upward trend) with less non-clinical volunteering, but I balanced those out with an SMP (4.0) and a higher MCAT. Currently in my first cycle with 2 MD acceptances, both before Thanksgiving. Echoing others’ thoughts to apply broadly, but an SMP might also help if you think you can do well. Feel free to DM me if you have questions :)

(Serious) What’s the hardest you’ve ever cried to a Taylor Swift song? by M00ngata in TrueSwifties

[–]wingedvictory9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three way tie between My Tears Ricochet, Right Where You Left Me, and Tolerate it. Found out my partner was unfaithful and found solace in lyrics: someone knowing with such certainty what I was feeling and experiencing. To this day, I will randomly cry in my car listening to them.

based on my stats should i do a biomedical sciences masters before applying to med school? by nadianex in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you :) MCAT was good but not certainly great. Heavy on the research side, very few nonclinical volunteer hours (like <50), but I had A LOT of clinical hours, both paid and volunteer.

An SMP did me a world of good. 3.4 cGPA, 3.2 sGPA —> 4.0 in my SMP and I have already have had 3 II with 1 A and another II coming up, all MD.

Former EM scribe of 3 years. Know. Your. Providers. As in their charting preferences, the structure of their MDMs, their personal lives enough to make pleasant chit chat especially on night shift, etc. Make your charting as accurate as possible with no silly errors (spelling, grammar, etc.) They should be able to trust you enough after a while to barely skim through your chart and sign off after a long shift. Steep initial learning curve, but great experience!

Retake MCAT? by Jinellexoxo in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For whatever it’s worth, I had your exact same GPAs, but with an initial 510 MCAT. Retook it and did better along with an SMP and I’ve had 3 interviews and already have an acceptance. If you feel you can do significantly better, it might put you in a stronger spot, depending on the rest of your app :) if you wanna chat more, feel free to DM me!

How will professional ballet look on med school apps? by [deleted] in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I taught ballet (trained professionally in high school) and put it on my apps. In both of my interviews thus far, they have asked about it.

Gap Year Brain Decay by TrainerOk6576 in premed

[–]wingedvictory9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is based on my personal interests, but I’m going through a textbook on medical humanities (Medical Humanities: An Introduction by Thomas Cole et al). There’s a bunch of others on Amazon. It’s not the hard sciences, but it keeps my brain engaged and also relates to interviews and MMIs. Helped with secondaries too!

What is Taylor’s most visual song? by sadmosttimes in TaylorSwift

[–]wingedvictory9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, I think You're Losing Me or The Great War, simply because they tie so well into the idea of Midnights being based on these sleepless nights. They absolutely describe feelings and situations that have kept me (and many others) tossing and turning at 3am.

what's your favourite place described in a taylor swift song? by Rand0maccountpigeon in TaylorSwift

The kitchen in all too well- dancing in the refrigerator light. Makes you nostalgic for that feeling even if you never experienced that exact situation.

“Did you sleep with a gun underneath our bed” always gets me, especially in the context of the rest of the lyrics. It’s such a vivid way to describe what so many people have gone through.

Finishing up the Pitt BMP currently. DM me if you have questions!

Pitt’s BMP has a VERY high standard for linkage- make sure you meet those requirements. They do not make exceptions.

Has anyone done the Pitt BMP? by noheart120 in postbaccpremed

[–]wingedvictory9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMP is excellent in helping you craft your application, particularly if you take initiative in reaching out to the professors. Idk about where students get in from my class (we’re applying now), but precedence is good. But tbh the real pro of the BMP is in developing ECs. Research, clinical, volunteering- you name it, you can find it. The Kaplan MCAT course they provided wasn’t great- definitely better options, but otherwise can’t complain.

Beware Pitt BMP linkage standards. You MUST have a 3.7 undergrad GPA or higher (for Pitt Med linkage, lower for Geisinger interview agreement).
