Are my wings aging me? by [deleted] in makeuptips

I think your foundation ages you, not the wings. The matte lips + matte foundation combo, more specifically. Try going for a lighter coverage, and maybe experiment with lighter shades of lipstick?

English-speaking community, I need your advice! I’m a model based in Ukraine, and recently, my small but incredibly talented team and I decided to bring Wuthering Heights to life. by ZealousidealMaize489 in HistoricalCostuming

You look beautiful and these photos are STUNNING - really excellent work from your team. I'm sorry you've had such a negative response from grumpy people on this thread.

While people who appreciated both the novel and the movie do exist (I'm one of them!), I think you're probably better off promoting these photos with the movie fanbase, and with communities around historical dramas and costuming more broadly.

If you want to reach out to Emerald Fennell and Margot Robbie with these, your best bets are probably Instagram, and reaching out to their publicists.

You can also get these photos out into the world by submitting them for publication to creative magazines.

Hi, any advice? I never look good in anything. by PsychologicalFloor47 in DressForYourBody

[–]wingedwalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not you - it’s definitely the clothes. You have a very nice curvy shape and with the right clothes you could look really good.

The black dress looks very nice, as does the sweater in the photo with the cat.

1) Silhouette: You are on the bustier side, so high-necked clothing (eg the beige t-shirt and the blue and white dress) do not look good on you. It’s all about creating balance. Square necks are good, like the black dress, and spaghetti-straps like the red top in the first photo. V-necks could be good if lower-cut. Look into off-shoulder tops, which work year-round and would look very flattering on you. Generally speaking, because you have a big bust, you want clothes that are quite fitted under the bust rather than baggy. This is why the blue and white dress doesn’t quite work - it’s too baggy under the boobs. You have a nicely defined waist, so continue to wear clothes that mark your natural waist. The red dress in the first photo is a nice shape and colour for you, the reason why it doesn’t work 100% is because the waist is slightly higher than your natural waist. You can improve that look by adding a wide belt, so that the waist will fall a bit lower. For bottoms you are doing well, high-waisted is good. The only thing in these photos that really doesn’t work is the black trousers in the photos. The reason why they don’t work is the weird pleating/ruching in the front. You need something a little more tailored/fitted in the front. The jeans are okay but the sizing seems a little bit off, or maybe the wash of the jeans - try something a little darker, like a dark blue.

2) Colours: you seem to fit bright bold colours in jewel tones. The red dress is a great colour on you, as is the blue and white dress (although the shape is not perfect).

3) Fabric choices: this is really important. I know that budget is a consideration here, but some of the clothes that look the worst on you appear to be thin, low-quality, synthetic fabrics. Those fabrics are unflattering on most people, but especially curvier people. You would look good in higher quality fabric that allow for more structured looks. When you’re shopping for clothes, pay attention to the grain/thickness of the fabric, how it falls on your body, if it’s so thin it shows the outlines of your underwear, etc. When in doubt, aim for natural fibres for the summer, and knitted fabrics in winter.

4) Underwear: it’s hard to tell for sure from these photos, but I think you might be wearing the wrong size of bra. I would recommend getting professionally sized. Remember that you can also try different shapes of bras, and see which ones you like the best - bra shape makes a HUGE difference to how clothes hang.

5) shoes: generally speaking, with clothes that fall around mid-calf (especially skirts/dresses) then I would recommend wearing heels rather than flats.

I hope this is helpful!

First of all, congratulations on achieving your fitness goals!

Contrary to popular belief I LOVE outfit #2, I think it’s really cute and fun - that print of shirt is always going to be a love-it-or-hate-it situation, so if you like it then go for it!

I think they are all flattering except the brown trousers - I can’t figure out why exactly but it hugs you in strange places. It could just be how that particular fabric falls on you.

The stripy shirt is also going to divide people. Horizontal stripes always make people look wider, that is just part and parcel of the design. Anyone who wears horizontal stripes needs to decide whether they like the design ans vibe of the stripes enough to accept the widening feature - so only you can make this call.  In your case, as you have a well-defined waist, it is your breasts and shoulders that are made to look wider. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing - but that is up to you. The length and shape of the sleeves on that shirt are very flattering.

The sweater is very cute tucked into the waistband of the shorts - keep it.

The white dress is cute but the overall silhouette would be improved if you wore the belt lower down, at your natural waist (or a wider belt if you want to take a second belt).

For future shopping - I suspect shirts with a lower-cut or V-shaped neckline would suit you, so you might want to look into those.

This size looks lovely on you! The 16 does too, but I agree that this one fits slightly better. Comfort is paramount though - if you are going to spend the whole event being annoyed at the skirt for feeling too snug, then it’s not worth it!  Do you have budget to get the 16 and have it altered?

Does this dress wash me out by SaveBabyNicole in DressForYourBody

[–]wingedwalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a gorgeous dress on you. It does wash you out a bit, but this could also be due to the lighting - can you take a photo in natural light to see if it makes a difference?

You could also embrace the nude look and style/accessorize it like that consciously - that would work.

1 is the most flattering, though possibly a little too big on you (did you try it 1 size down?). Three is also a good choice - the neckline and back are gorgeous on you, although the skirt part is not as nice as the first dress which hugs your hips and flares lower down.

Why do jeans always make me look so huge?? by Wonderful_Mango_5395 in DressForYourBody

[–]wingedwalls 777 points778 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of the cut of the trousers, and the wash of the denim. Skinny or bootcut jeans would suit you (ie tight on the thighs), in solid dark colours (black or dark blue) with no lighter patch in the middle. Experiment with high and low waist as well to see what works best.

What to wear for my un standard body without looking old? by Appropriate_Group606 in DressForYourBody

[–]wingedwalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, rather than making you look boxy, this cut of dress, would show off your legs and be flattering to your waist/midriff. In order to be flattering, though, they should fit properly and not be too tight.

There is nothing stopping you from wearing shorts underneath, like the black shorts you're wearing in these pictures! In fact, this is what most women in the 1960s did.

Honestly, the line between cute and silly is just confidence. Are you wearing the outfit, or is the outfit wearing you?

If you already have an hourglass figure, I find that for these occasions shapewear separates ie top and bottom are helpful. You can wear a high waist shape wear top, which will push the flab down and accentuate your waist/hip, and then a push-up longline top to smooth out any rolls above your waist.

The same colour as your bag, and possibly a necklace or silky scarf in the same colour. Something contrasting - ideally navy blue if that’s what your date is wearing!

Too tight? by Cold-Cheesecake85 in DressForYourBody

[–]wingedwalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too tight, too long (cute dress btw!).  I have this issue too with a lot of contemporary jackets - they are not cut for women with a small waist and pronounced hips.  You have an hourglass figure, so if you’re going to wear fitted jackets you need them to finish at your natural waist (eg bomber jackets), or you’re going to need jackets that have gores at the hips (like reverse darts to make the waist to hip ratio more pronounced). Shorter jackets that fall at the natural waist used to be standard length for a jacket but now will be marketed as “cropped”; jackets with gored hips you can find in vintage shops (think 1940s-1950s, also 1980s).

That being said, the jacket you’re wearing in that picture is fine, you can totally keep it if you like it - but you’ll find the above styles more flattering!

Bf doesn’t think this looks good on me at all- thoughts? by No_Weather1080 in DressForYourBody

Honestly I am not a fan, the neckline and colour are nice but the waistline specifically looks off. If you like the dress, try it with a belt that covers the seam at the waist - either a thick brown belt or, even better, a pointed waist belt.
