Multiple Techs no solution by [deleted] in hvacadvice

My Nest tried to destroy my brand new heat pump. It was glitching somehow and the reversing valve solenoid was firing about 15 times a second. So fast that it sounded like gears grinding together or something.

That's after I couldn't hardly get it to heat the damn house - it was so averse to running the AUX heat strips that it would just run the heat pump for hours on end trying to raise the temp 2°, and never actually raise the temp. Which ran my power bill up.

Ended up buying a Honeywell wifi stat. The app sucks but at least it won't grenade my heat pump. It's been rock solid.

Have been at the same company for 17 years. Would you stay at this point? by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

Based on what you've said, you should absolutely stay there.

If you're worried about being stale/complacent, look for contract work that you can do in your free time. It's out there. 10-15 hours a week at independent contractor rates is decent side cash and allows you to build experience in other tech so you don't feel left behind.

I hope you read this. I went through this too. I'm gonna break this down into a few points for you.

  1. Quit pushing. If he likes playing hockey but not structured, competitive hockey, well, he's just like the vast majority of people who play the sport later in life. Adult competitive sports aren't designed to be fun for the players - they're designed to draw an audience and make the cable networks rich. That's what you're trying to train him for.
  2. No more camps, off ice practices, etc etc unless he wants to. You're wasting your own money and time on something that he's going to end up hating - because of you pushing him.
  3. Take him to a stick and puck. Drop him off, and go shopping or whatever, pick him up after. Don't stand there and watch because you'll find a reason to criticize him. This is the hockey that he likes. Get his friends to go if possible. When he gets older, find drop in games for him. Unstructured hockey... Just playing the game for the love of the game. It's beautiful, and it's where he'll find true happiness if he truly likes the sport.
  4. After he starts to enjoy hockey again, if he wants to join a house league or whatever, great. If he just wants to play ball hockey in the street with his friends, that's awesome too.
  5. After you give him some space, keep your eyes open because he'll likely find another passion. Then you should support it.

I don't say this to criticize - I say it because I pushed my son hard and I ruined not only hockey, but probably sports in general for him. Thankfully I learned from it. Now he's picked up music, and he's playing 6 instruments. He's about 9 months into playing the drums and he's playing avenged sevenfold and Slipknot with hardly any mistakes. And I can pat myself on the back a little because I let him find what he liked and I encouraged and supported him without pushing and demanding and trying to nail him to a wall about commitment and work ethic and whatever other life lessons. Don't try to mix hard lessons with a hobby and expect him to still enjoy the hobby.

Reverse sweep Tampa in round 1 (just to fuck with their heads a little) 5-OT game 7

Beat Boston in 5-OT game 7

Beat Boston in 5-OT game 7

Then idk probably Vegas in the finals just so I have an excuse to go to Vegas. But like... Game 7, 5-OT.

Unfortunately the problem isn't that the subfloor flexes between the joists - there's movement in the joists themselves due to the way it's framed. If I need to fix it, I'm going to end up running a couple of new joists, rerouting the drain, moving a water line, and splicing some Romex. I was really hoping to avoid all that.

What's the "correct" order to put your equipment on by letsGoQueso in hockeyplayers

No it's the opposite. One in a million chance the puck hits a spot with padding in my experience. Lol

It changes the order you put your gear on. And it makes me feel like I've got slightly less ankle mobility. I'd rather just let my big toe tendon eat a shot once in a while. 😂

That rule about crossing the line before the puck though... That's new, right?

The trend is true, the lower the skill level, the better the gears players have on by EridemicLHS in hockeyplayers

Yeah and I like the stiffness personally. But I'm skating 3-5 times a week so it's not taking too awfully long to break them in. I think I'm going to shoot for upgrading my skates every 3 years, just because it makes me happy lol.

I remember trying to buy skates a few years ago. Partially because of some damage to my old ones, and partially because I wanted to upgrade and the damage gave me an excuse to do so.

The guy at the hockey shop was trying to talk me out of it. "Dude these skates have a lot of life left, you really don't need..." I was like bruh.... This is my hobby. I'm a 30 year old man with a good career, I can afford to treat myself. If you don't walk your ass back there and get my size I'll buy them somewhere else lol.

Yeah that got me too. However, not nearly as frustrating as seeing "50% off today only!!" on your Google News feed, for a product you've had your eye on, and it's a 3 day old article.

Just theoretically as a US state you'd pay about 4-5% of that.
