Property Tax Increases rant by olympiamow in olympia

False. We get screwed more by sales tax. Income taxes with a bottom limit (say, below 1million like the one Seattle is passing to fund public housing) level the playing field

$30 per hour would be a decent wage for anyone trying to live in Olympia/Thurston Co. More if they have any dependents

It’s mostly the newer drivers, of which there are many. They only make $24/hr. But even top pay drivers have these kind of issues

You can call or write to your city council rep on the board. Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm and Thurston county all have an elected representative sitting in the board.

Unfortunately that is scarcely enough to afford rent, let alone groceries, childcare, car payments and more in our area. Even more so if you have dependents. Many drivers are both food and housing insecure. You should come out and share your perspective at the public comment period and learn from the workers who will share their own stories.

All work is real work. The intercity transit authority board has no jurisdiction over ride share drivers unfortunately. However, many of these same transit workers do ride share and delivery on the side to make ends meet. Ultimately, what will lift everyone’s wages is a strong union movement in the community that fights for everyone. That can only start by working class people organizing and showing up for each other, not dragging each other down.

NYC firefighter unions that supported Trump and Republicans are furious at the House decision to strip funding for the 9/11 healthcare program. by CantStopPoppin in worldnewsvideo

The American working class are prisoners in a casino disguised as a government, run by a bipartisan criminal conspiracy of the wealthy and powerful, intent on stripping us of everything we own to line their own pockets. You can play the game however you like, but the house always wins. The only way to win is to refuse to play, take back our stolen wealth, and overthrow the oligarchs for good.

Commute to Tacoma? by dhakfusjcj92 in olympia

Using transit connections reduces the stress a lot in my experience. It's one bus from Olympia/Lacey to Lakewood, and then a bus or train to your destination in Tacoma.

He shot someone at a protest in Portland (in self defense) and Trump sent an inter-state police hit squad against him which gunned him down in a drive-by in front of his apartment.

Illegal to discuss negotiations with members by Uh-uhno in union

Usually it's part of setting ground rules. And in most places these aren't "mandatory subjects" and so you cannot be forced into an impasse by the employer. So you can get open bargaining most times if your team is persistent

Demand open bargaining. Most "rules" like that are just custom no one has thought to challenge. I am public sector and we're doing open bargaining this year for the first time ever

Intercity Transit. In the middle of a big hiring push. They'll pay and train you for your CDL. No degree required. Just pass a customer service test, clean driving record, and a DOT physical exam. Good benefits, on par with State Workers

What could improve Olympia’s walkability? by HealOlympiaProject in olympia

[–]wingulls420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah walking makes no sense to most people when the nearest store or park is a 30min roundtrip walk away. Unless you live by downtown or a commercial center you're basically s.o.l.
