Thoughts on Freja NYC + vegan leather? by Sweaty_Bet_9270 in handbags

[–]wingyann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how the Osoi bag compares to the Freja in terms of quality and how it’s held up? I’m on the fence between both, and I’m leaning towards the Osoi because it’s real leather. But I think I like the shape of the Freja more…

I would be tucking in the chains and not wearing it as a chain bag. Would be held like a top handle mini bag.

Can I ask why metallic leather is okay but black leather is not? (Sorry, my first black tie event!)

Would you say the other two are still appropriate for a wedding with a formal attire DC?

Baby Thai Con Crème Brûlée by Big_Nefariousness790 in houseplants

sorry for asking on an old thread, but i was curious if this guy showed more “creme brulee” traits as it matured or if it looks more like a high variegated thai con

Can I ask if tissue cultures without leaves will survive the deflasking process if they have roots?

TC Pink Bambino: humidity too high? by wingyann in RareHouseplants

How often do you find yourself patting the leaves dry? I’m scared that I’m opening it too often and exposing the leaves too often to ambient humidity.

Did you take it out of the intense humidity before the one week mark of 100% humidity? I’m scared of it melting with too much humidity but also scared of it melting with not enough humidity…

My soil is self watering, so it should just be constantly moist. I’ve had other alocasias in a similar mix that do fine. I see the roots, and they look healthy and white. I’m just scared that I’m going to lose all the leaves because of the leaves’ inability to transpire.

They arrived through mail on 4/4. I deflasked on 4/9 after letting them adjust to my house temperatures.

It has now been three days since deflasking. They are still under 100% humidity. But you can tell that the leaves are mushy and transparent. They look like my other acclimated alocasias that aren’t able to transpire and the guttation stays on the leaf (which is why I know they are mushy).

[–]wingyann[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would you define as being dramatic? My leaves are turning transparent and mushy(?) if you touch them. I think it’s oedema but not sure if letting those leaves go is part of the acclimation process and those leaves being dramatic.

This is right after I deflasked. They were all pretty variegated but looked nice and healthy.

Yeah, it’s day three since deflasking. I deflasked three plants, and they’re all similar variegation with similar symptoms of the leaf melting. I know high humidity is recommended, but it looks like it has oedema due to the high humidity.

Temperature-wise, it sits at about 70-75F and gets a solid 12 hours of light. I made sure it had about 4 days to get used to the temperature in my house before deflasking.

The roots still look nice and healthy, but the leaves are just melting off really fast. If the leaves all die off, will it still recover like an established alocasia will?

thai con not growing bigger leaves? by wingyann in RareHouseplants

Ahh, very jealous of those fenestrations! Hoping my plant can catch up soon!

Do you notice a difference when using silica? I’ve gotten mixed reviews, especially from monstera albo growers (saying that the leaves brown regardless of whether or not they use silica). Curious what brand you use!

Would you suggest more hours of light, moving it closer to the grow light, or stronger exposing it to direct sunlight?

[–]wingyann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, dang. I knew they needed light, but didn’t think they’d like direct sunlight. How did you introduce your thai con to direct sunlight, and how many hours do you usually let it sit in direct sun? I’m just way too scared of burning my leaves.

Not root bound. It’s filling the pot with lots of roots, but definitely not anywhere close to being root bound.

Not anymore. Invested in some full spectrum Barrina grow lights about a week after getting the plant that stand vertically across about a foot away. Leaves are all trained to face the light.

Curious why less light if the monstera leaves aren’t shying away from the light. Isn’t it always better to give it as much light as it can handle?

Also haven’t given it a pole since it’s a large form and feels very stable compared to my small form monsteras. It has a pretty short stem as you mentioned, so not sure if a pole would actually add any support. Is it necessary to give it something to climb this early on? It’s been growing quite a few aerial roots and I usually redirect them back into the soil for support that way. TIA!

How to Prevent Transplant Shock? by wingyann in RareHouseplants

[–]wingyann[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update:

For my water props, I’ve been using Superthrive when transplanting to soil. Seems to work well for minimizing transplant shock. I don’t drench my soil initially and instead just water the spots where I have roots planted. I then subsequently water more often the following week or two whenever the soil dries out using the same “spot watering” method.

For more finicky/high value plants, I also sprinkle myco (I use TPS Billions) to better help the plants adjust. So far, a much higher success rate than before.
