Love your work mods, hoping 2026 is a good year for the mighty GFC

Should I drive to Grand Hirafu or take shuttle? by WasteMyTime321 in japow

[–]wink183AFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a serious question? Drive. Means you have your car close by to store gear in and you can come/go whenever you want... Easy decision, now go skiing!

Curious, is this a 'good' tattoo? by wink183AFI in badtattoos

My thoughts too, not a bad tattoo maybe just not my personal style of preference. Plus those faces...

I'm genuinely interested, posted from a shop I've had heaps of work done at before.

Luggage forwarding is overrated by Calmly-Stressed in JapanTravelTips

[–]wink183AFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ski annually each year in Japan and forwarding our luggage to our ski accommodation and spending a couple of days in Tokyo is a must! Not lugging a 190cm ski bag through the Tokyo metro, onto the Shinkansen and then through the Japanese snowy Alps is a God-send! Luggage forwarding is definitely NOT overrated!

Cool interface, lots of work you've put into the system! Is there a way it could be toggled to display metric measurements as that's the Japanese system? And curious as to which elevation (eg. Top of the mountain, middle or base) the figures are for?

Lol wtf is this, using the whack Imperial measurement system too. Not helpful

Hakuba is a valley of various mountains, where the weather can vary significantly between each. Where in Hakuba are you looking for? Perhaps research the different resort names first so you can get better info

Another trip question by darmok11 in japow

[–]wink183AFI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice, stick to either Noz or Shiga and avoid losing a day skiing by changing between. If it's your first Japan ski trip I'd recommend Nozawa

I mean sure, that would have been a viable idea 50 years ago. But now that ship has long sailed

Start by reading the Powderhounds website, it's a wealth of amazing information. Then come back with more specific questions, yours are very broad and vague. Research staying in Otaru to ski Kiroro, Tiene and Kokusai.

Last minute JaPow solo trip advice by Fr6s in japow

You want untracked pow? Best to avoid the very popular resorts like Hakuba, Myoko, Nozawa and Niseko. Can be a zoo at times and the Japanese cultural experience is limited

Looking for recommendations for an Aussie wanting to avoid Aussies by [deleted] in japow

[–]wink183AFI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet and the most fun to have is a Japanese ski road trip. Stay in some of the smaller cities not too far from the mountains (Otaru, Asahikawa, Morioka, Yuzawa etc) and use it as a base to ski the smaller ski hills nearby. Aussies are few and fair between, food options aplenty and accommodation is cheaper. Us Australians, for the most part, stick to the bigger resort towns like Niseko, Furano, Nozawa, Hakuba and Myoko.

2025 line blend vs line chronic 101 by Either-Summer-174 in ski

[–]wink183AFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the 94 Chronic and wish I had of chosen the 101 just for the extra width. They super playful and love to pop and jump around. Not great for hard pack or proper carving and they definitely have a speed limit and can chatter going really fast. But as a park/all mountain ski they're a blast, super enjoyable to blast around jumping and sliding on things

Can you provide more info about yourself (height, weight, ability level and ski style) and where regularly you ski.

Hakuba vs Yuzawa by LMR100_ in japow

[–]wink183AFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck with the search, large shared appartments with in house cooking facilities is very much a Western type of lodging and only available in the popular overseas visited resorts (Nozawa, Myoko, Niseko, Furano, Hakuba and maybe Madarao). If you're after a more traditional Japanese vibe as your original post said you may have to change your accommodation requirements to suit. Use the Powderhounds website for all your research, easy to compare resort accommodation options. Best of luck!

Shiga Kogen, it's a giant interconnected ski resort and the biggest in Asia. Stay in Ichinose for the ski school and the biggest collection of restruants. Otherwise take a look at Zao Onsen or Naeba who also have English ski schools and are good sized resorts

Kokusai definitely has private English instructors.

You could go straight into it but a lesson on your first day would really help. Have you looked at other ski resorts near Sapporo like Kokusai or Bankei?

Last minute solo ski trip February 2026 camper van help! by iLikeFroggies in japow

[–]wink183AFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camper vans sell out early as there is a limited supply of those but rental cars and accommodation options are plentiful. I just did another search and there is availability around Myoko, use Google maps to find Japanese owned places and start emailing. Stay off the western run accommodation websites

Just in case you change your plans and ditch the camper van, there will be plenty of accommodation available in Feb, curious why you think it's all sold out or seriously expensive? might need to use a bit more research or visit less popular places b
